Upon offer of employment, Candidate must pass preemployment physical and drug test. Random drug testing conducted throughout employment. General Job Duties Lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications. Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies, including bulkheads, webframes, railings, foundations, plating and other structural members. Assemble, cut and grind metal structural parts to include plates, bulkheads, strong backs, and turnbuckles. Align parts in relation to each other. Knowledge Skills and Abilities required: Perform layout work according to blueprints or reference lines. Mark locations of holes to be drilled, drive wedges and install temporary fasteners to hold parts in place for welding. Have a reasonable knowledge of basic welding to assure proper fit and prep. Basic reading, writing and math skills. Ability to read drawings, blue prints and design sketches. Capability of using hand tools and power tools safely. Candidates must also be able to read a tape measure, level, and square. Must be able to operate overhead hoisting equipment. Physical demands Candidate must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift, carry and transport equipment and boxes up to 50 pounds. Able to work on and climb ladders, bend, stoop, crawl and work aboard ships both in the shipyard and on the water. Ability to work under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Must be capable of wearing all required personal protective equipment and work in a noisy and physically demanding environment.
