CHA recently opened a new inpatient center for youth with acute behavioral health needs. Located in Somerville, the beautiful new facility offers care for children and adolescents with neuro-developmental disorders. The new Center for Inpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Somerville will provide a transformative continuum of patient and family-centered care for diverse youth with mental health needs.

The Adolescent Unit is a 21 bed secure psychiatric unit that provides care for children between the ages of 13 and 18. The unit is located in Somerville Hospital. This is an acute care unit, working on assessment, stabilization and after care treatment planning. We have a multidisciplinary team focused on teaching self-control, de-escalation and restraint reduction. This approach is used to provide patient and family centered care.

Job Summary

The Unit Secretary performs a wide variety of administrative/clerical and non-patient care duties. Maintains the medical record and department whiteboard, answers the telephone, schedules appointments and displays professional behavior and attitude to all customer groups. Strong attention to contributing to patients' excellence of care.

Qualifications/Experience:

High school diploma or GED required.

Must have excellent customer service, PC skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations. Must be highly organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.

Previous medical unit secretary experience preferred. Inpatient experience is strongly preferred. Must be comfortable working in a secured pediatric inpatient psychiatric unit.
