Job Summary: This role will serve as the leader of chemistry, application, and testing for all home fragrance products that will support business priorities while emphasizing product safety, performance, and aesthetics. This role will also support the organization’s development strategy alongside executive management team by managing formulation development, troubleshooting technical issues, and enhancing our technical capabilities. The role will play a crucial part in leading R&D and lab operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical wax development group on product formulation, testing, scale-up, trials, and pilots.

  • Lead analytical and physical chemistry groups on best-in-class testing methods and reporting.

  • Ensure full testing compliance on all home fragrance products and expand on testing methodologies.

  • Commercialize on-time, on-cost, and on quality Home Fragrance products.

  • Ensure the smooth transfer of current and new knowledge of formulation and technology to manufacturing and other business units.

  • Set the formulation strategy for multiple brands to ensure optimized product performance, aesthetics, and safety.

  • Work with cross-functional partners to convert strategy to an implementable technical roadmap.

  • Ensure timely and robust delivery of the product development portfolio, driving execution across functions and manufacturing sites to ensuring effective and compliant commercialization of new products.

  • Add to intellectual property portfolio.

  • Actively participate in industry related associations.

  • Cultivate a culture of collaboration, inclusiveness, innovation, and continuous learning, fostering talent development and empowering team members to reach their full potential.

  • Create standard operating procedures and train laboratory technicians in the use of SOPs and other methods.

  • Work with consultants and third parties to develop and implement innovative products.

  • Deliver new consumer-centric product concepts to the business on a standard cadence.

  • Effectively work in cross-functional teams across different time zones with members from product development, project management, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, application engineering, process engineering, brand, marketing, and sales.

  • Work in various PLM and LMS systems.

  • Recognize sources of problems, absorb new information easily, expose gaps in logic and contradictions, and develop effective solutions to technical roadblocks.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or chemistry related discipline.

  • Minimum of 10 years of successful R&D Leadership in product development in the relevant area.

  • Strong understanding of wax chemistry.

  • Candle and home fragrance formulation experience required.

  • Experience in analytical chemistry, analytical testing methods, physical chemistry.

  • Strong understanding of fragrance chemistry, raw materials, and formulation techniques.

  • Effective communication, collaboration, and relationship building skills, with the ability to influence and build trust across various departments.

  • Ability to apply strategic and critical thinking skills to translate scientific concepts into practical applications.

  • Some experience working in SAP, Windchill PLM, and FileMaker relational database or other SAP and Lab Management Software.

  • Broad range of experience in formulation preparation and testing in the laboratory.

  • Proven bench to production scale-up experience.

  • Highly adaptable to frequent changes in direction.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying technical information in a clear and thorough manner.

  • Proven ability to invent and innovate, and strong ability to design and implement experiments.

  • Professional laboratory skills are essential.

  • Fluent in English.
