Job Summary

The Project Engineer will develop ‘smart’ Newell home fragrance products from concept to launch. This position will work to ensure the products meet or exceed expectations from a cost, timing, and specification standpoint while working with Marketing, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Suppliers, Fragrance Team, and Regulatory.

The IoT Associate Engineer/Engineer role includes, but itnot limited to, the following:

  • Works in afast-moving cross functional team to develop connected home fragrance products thatmeet consumer benefits and cost targets

  • Embraces aforward-thinking approach to product development to ensure efficientengineering solutions are considered and utilized when possible (i.e. shardtools/shared app/established platform etc.)

  • Assists indeveloping detailed project plans including cost, timing, risks and resourcerequirements and works in an ‘agile’ manner with a ‘bias for action’

  • Supports supplierdevelopment and selection to ensure technical capabilities to supportinnovation funnel

  • Develops and buildsexternal partnerships in the IoT space to ensure products meet specified requirementsfrom brand, CMI, and usability teams

  • Develops the analysisof how sub-assembly level decisions impact the overall business strategy tofacilitate design-for-cost and uses results to influence product design

  • Reviews relevant competitive products andpatents to provide benchmarking and analysis of technical specifications

  • Partners with quality to ensure ongoing qualityconformance for new products

  • Leads DFMEA and/orPFMEA activities, and resolves high risk items prior to execution

  • Creates test methodsbased on risks identified in the DFEMA, and analyzes test results to informdesign decisions

  • Writes and maintainstechnical specifications and documentation for the development andimplementation of new products

  • Recommends tools andtechniques for automating, simplifying, and enhancing product testing

  • Utilizesunderstanding of diverse types of manufacturing equipment to influence productdevelopment

  • Supports materialand component selection based on target requirements. Identifies key issuesinvolved with different types of manufacturing materials

  • Recommends andpresents solutions and opportunities in forums to encourage ideation andtechnical sharing

  • Summarizes complextechnical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience togain alignment

  • Sometravel may be required


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical,Material, or Computer Science Engineering required

  • 2-5 years of product developmentexperience preferred

  • Strong knowledge of problem-solvingtechniques and methodologies

  • Strong knowledge of IoT architecture preferred

  • Experience developing consumer productspreferred

  • Previous hands onprototyping/design validation model building knowledge preferred

  • Demonstrates StrongStatic/Dynamic analytical skills

  • Previous CAD / 3d modeling experience a plus

  • Candidatemust be able to work as a team player and have demonstrated leadership ability

  • Stronginterpersonal, communication and project management skills. Excellentpresentation skills required, along with superior organization and attention todetail.
