Pelican Products Product Development Engineer in South Deerfield, Massachusetts
SOUTH DEERFIELD Product Developemtn Engineer Responsible for design, testing, and launch of new Technical Packaging products. Works cross-functionally with Product Managers, Marketing and manufacturing to efficiently produce high quality innovative designs with a focus on manufacturability, product performance, all while focusing on cost price point. They manage and drive projects from concept to production, ensuring that they meet quality standards, budgetary constraints, and timeline requirements. JOB DUTIES Lead and participate in design projects, delivering innovative packaging solutions that break the current industry trends Impact project development through technical expertise, project planning, project management, and presentations to both internal and external groups Create prototype designs using 3D CAD software and physical product prototypes to support design decisions, product promotion, usage and general product development. Manage external and internal dependencies to maintain standards of design output. These include but not be limited to: Tooling design approval Acceptance criteria for new products and / or materials Drawing control Validation of product design through the Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis process (DFMEA) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM and DFA). Validate shipping containers designs by setting up and conducting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations Cost packaging components and final products for business viability assessments Maintain technical documentation to support business decision making. Prepare laboratory tests using approved process, equipment, and materials Provide advice to suppliers and manufacturing partners where required in respect of Material specifications, acceptable design tolerances, manufacturing processes Assists in development and growth of overall business by supporting and advising on capital projects including increased manufacturing capacity, new machinery, and novel technologies. Makes recommendations and justifications for new production processes and equipment. Identifies novel solutions that warrant research and patent ability. Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job. Performs additional duties as required or directed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field Five (5) years of experience in a similar role Must have experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulation software Excellent verbal, written, math and presentation skills, with great attention to detail. Proficient with Word, Excel, 3D CAD, 2D Technical Drawing and flow-charting software. Statistical Data Analysis Software Experience with Laboratory Techniques & Test Methods, New Product Development processes, Lean Product Development, Design of Experiments (DOE), Design for six sigma, continuous improvement methods and Risk analysis methods, Design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA), Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM and DFA).
