Chief Engineer remote type - In-Person time type - Part time job requisition id - R-0000001555 In-Person, Hybrid, or Remote: In-Person Minimum Starting Rate of Pay: \$80.00 Rate of pay commensurate with experience Job Description: The Facilities Management department supports the administration, faculty, staff and students in the quality planning and development of facilities projects that support our mission. Our talented staff of approximately 140 FTEs; Cleaning, Mechanical Trades, Central Heating Plant, Grounds, Carpentry, Stockroom, EH&S, Fleet Services & Mail Services. They\'re responsible for more than 2,000,000 SF of property in over 60+ major buildings and for maintaining more than 300 acres. Duties and responsibilities: The Chief Engineer is responsible for the day to day safe and efficient operation of the power plant equipment ensuring compliance with state, federal and insurance regulations. Directs the central heating plant operators, and is accountable for production, quality, environmental and safety considerations of the Central Heating Plant. Conducts operational tests, provides preventative maintenance, inspecting thermal systems located within the power plant. The part-time Engineer in charge (chief engineer) must make 5 visits per week to the Central Heating Plant and must perform the following duties: Sign the engineer\'s logbook. Inspect the boiler operator\'s daily logbook. Monitor the operating boilers, pumps, and appurtenances. Record monthly fuel consumption for compliance with DEP guidelines. Qualifications: Massachusetts 2nd class Steam Engineers license. Minimum of 4 years\' experience in modern power plant, operating turbine generators or steam driven chiller and with routine boiler maintenance. Must possess excellent communication skills and have familiarity with routine boiler maintenance. Possess the theory, application and experience in the operation and maintenance of power plant auxiliary equipment. The ability to handle and move heavy materials License/Certifications: Massachusetts 2nd Class Steam Engineer license Working Conditions: Employee handles a range of hazardous materials, including cleaning chemicals and supplies. May have contact with chemicals and fumes, wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and extreme weather related to heat or cold. Must occasionally work in high and precarious places. Noise level in some work environments can occasionally be loud. Physical Demands: Balancing, carrying, pulling/pushing, grasping, repetitive movement, standing, bending, reaching, sitting, twisting and lifting. Ability to physically perform manual tasks, climb stairs, lift, climb ladders, and bend. Ability to lift (50) pounds unassisted, able to stoop or stand for prolonged periods of time.
