Custodian - 2nd Shift Job no: R-0000001454 Faculty or Staff: Staff Full Time or Part Time: Full time In-Person, Hybrid, or Remote: In-Person Minimum Starting Rate of Pay: \$17.77 Rate of pay commensurate with experience Job Description: Department Summary & Job Purpose: The Facilities Management department supports the administration, faculty, staff and students in the quality planning and development of facilities projects that support our mission. Our talented staff of approximately 140 FTEs (Cleaning, Mechanical Trades, Central Heating Plant, Grounds, Carpentry, Stockroom, EH&S, Fleet Services, and Mail Services & Duplication) are responsible for more than 2,000,000 SF of property in over 60+ major buildings and for maintaining more than 300 acres. This position is responsible for the cleanliness of all academic, administration and all other buildings as assigned. Duties and responsibilities: General cleaning tasks at campus buildings Sweeping, vacuuming and washing floors Emptying waste receptacles Cleaning and disinfecting restroom toilets, sinks, countertops, mirrors, showers and high touch surfaces Dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures Communicate building and safety concerns, report need for repair or services Snow removal assignments Additional duties as assigned Qualifications: High school or equivalent Must be able to adhere to a detailed cleaning program Must be willing to work some weekends and holidays Must be flexible for on-call assignments and snow shoveling detail Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds A willingness to perform other duties as assigned Working Conditions: Employee handles a range of hazardous materials, including cleaning chemicals and supplies. May have contact with chemicals and fumes, wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and extreme weather related to heat or cold. Noise level in some work environments can occasionally be loud. Physical Demands: Balancing, carrying, pulling/pushing, grasping, repetitive movement, standing, bending, reaching, sitting, twisting and lifting. Ability to physically perform manual tasks, climb stairs, lift, climb ladders, and bend. Ability to lift (50) pounds unassisted, able to stoop or stand for prolonged periods of time.
