Mount Holyoke College Director of Gift Planning in South Hadley, Massachusetts

Director of Gift Planning Position Type: Staff Full-Time (Hybrid) Hours per week: 37.5 Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; requires travel Department Summary & Job Purpose: The Director of Gift Planning reports to the Associate Vice President for Development and is part of the Leadership Gifts Team. The Director leads the three-person Gift Planning staff, working with a diverse pool to identify, cultivate, and solicit potential planned giving donors. The Director of Gift Planning also oversees a broad marketing program for gift planning and maintains an appropriate prospect pool of assigned individuals, which may include a major gift or high-level annual fund prospects and gift planning prospects. In addition to leading the Gift Planning team, the Director of Gift Planning provides ongoing stewardship to donors, defines and meets financial goals, oversees Gift Planning marketing and communications initiatives, and works closely with other College staff to ensure effective and efficient gift administration and stewardship. Qualifications: - Bachelor\'s degree required. Advanced degrees or certifications preferred. - A minimum of 7 years experience in gift planning or a combination of gift planning, major gifts, law, finance, or trust services. Experience should include capital and planned giving solicitation; training in aspects of charitable gift planning, including tax and inheritance law, preferred. - Preference for individuals with 3 - 5 years of management experience. - Must be able to deal with a diverse population (including more senior donors) and handle confidential materials with discretion. - Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills. - Demonstrated ability to cultivate and advance relationships strategically and proactively, resulting in six and seven-figure gifts. - Significant travel and occasional evening and weekend work required. Physical Demands: - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. - Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. - Sufficient speech clarity required includes those that permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person and by telephone. - The employee must have close visual acuity to perform tasks such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and reading extensively. - Employee operates office equipment and computers to perform essential duties Background Checks: At Mount Holyoke College, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our community members.
