SOUTH HADLEY Locksmith Department Summary & Job Purpose: The Facilities Management department supports the administration, faculty, staff, and students in the quality planning and development of facilities projects that support our mission. Our talented staff of approximately 140 FTEs (Cleaning, Mechanical Trades, Central Heating Plant, Grounds, Carpentry, Stockroom, EH&S, Fleet Services, and Mail Services & Duplication) are responsible for more than 2,000,000 SF of property in over 60+ major buildings and for maintaining more than 300 acres. This position is intended to work with the Carpentry Supervisor and Lead Locksmith to support the Facilities Management mission of providing well-maintained classrooms, residence halls, and other facilities related to an institution of higher education. This position requires a broad set of skills with experience in the interior and exterior facets of carpentry/lock work. This position is in an institutional/residential setting that requires good housekeeping skills, a \"least-disruptive\" approach to work, and an appreciation of the unique surroundings and those who also work and live in those surroundings. Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: Responsibilities include assisting with the maintenance of the College\'s lock system and security it provides; organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling locksmith work Respond to the College\'s carpentry needs as well as locksmith needs, during regular working hours and on overtime - including \"call-ins\"; install, maintain, repair, and replace hardware, locks, panic devices, door closers, and doors; Set up bittings, pin, and re-key all types of cylinders and padlocks Perform preventive maintenance on all door hardware, panic devices, door closers, and hinges; repair and replace all types of locks for doors and cabinets Maintain a key code system and cut keys by code Maintain a record of all keys that are issued to departments Input data into the computerized work order system to record time and work order information. Responsibilities also include providing training in the area of locksmith methods to others assigned to the Locksmith Shop. Coordinate the work of others assigned to the Locksmith Shop Make material and tools available to others assigned to the Locksmith Shop so that they can accomplish the work expected of them Keep the supervisor informed regarding the pace of work and any concerns that should properly brought to the attention of a supervisor Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: High school or equivalent A valid driver\'s license and successful credentialing is required Willingness to use own vehicle for work assignments Five to ten years experience working exclusively, or nearly exclusively, as a locksmith, preferably as an institutional locksmith Familiarity with the Best Lock System, Corbin Lock System, and S.F.I.C. The ability to work independently, with others within the Department, and with others outside the Department A willingness to work overtime - particularly during summer months - and call-in assignments Skills related to organizing, record-keeping, and prioritizing Familiarity with Locksmith Software, Excel, and Word Familiarity with electrified hardware and wireless systems - preferably Schlage Familiarity with basic carpentry Good communication skills A working knowledge of basic key control and security A willingness to perform other duties as assigned
