Town of Southborough Civil Engineer in Southborough, Massachusetts

Position Purpose: The Civil Engineer will participate in multiple aspects of engineering and project management within the Department of Public Works (DPW). The Civil Engineer works under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Public Works and will provide support to all aspects of the DPW, including but not limited to highway, water, solid waste, stormwater, cemeteries, grounds, and civil construction projects, as well as other departments as assigned. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Construction monitoring and inspection, preparation of construction bid documents, preparing quantity and cost estimates, monitoring construction projects for quality, review of submittals including pay requisitions, establishing and maintaining a GIS database, preparing periodic progress reports on construction projects, monitor construction budgets and change orders, prepare feasibility studies and cost benefit analyses, drafting policies or protocol forreview and similar engineering related duties. May be required to attend occasional night meetings to provide data to boards or obtain permits for projects or represent the department or organization at local and regional events. Errors in judgment could result in department errors, lower standards of service to the community, monetary loss or legal repercussions and possible negative public relations for both the department and the town. Requirements: Bachelor\'s degree in Civil Engineering, Massachusetts EIT preferred or licensed PE, or more than 5 years of related professional experience; proficiency in MS Office programs, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS is preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
