Position Purpose:

Supervises, coordinates, and organizes activities of assigned colleagues engaged in cleaning and sanitizing hospital facilities. Tours assigned hospital areas to observe cleaning crews in action and ensures all instructions and safety rules are followed.

What you will do:

  • Coordinates the work of assigned colleagues engaged in various tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and finishing floors, washing beds, relocating furniture, removing rubbish, and so forth in order to maintain Hospital in a clean, safe and orderly condition.

  • Provides input into development of departmental policies, procedures and budgets, and assists in administering the same.

  • Orients, trains, evaluates the performance of, and, when necessary, recom­mends discipline and discharge of assigned colleagues.

  • Prepares work schedules in order to provide adequate coverage at all times. Establishes work priorities and, with Lead Housekeepers, determines work as­signments. Changes schedules and reassigns colleagues in response to workload demands or staffing shortages.

  • Monitors work quality on a regular basis through use of inspection reports in order to ensure work of assigned colleagues meets Hospital, governmental and regulatory agency stan­dards. Issues corrective instructions and conducts follow-up inspections to ensure compliance, as necessary.

  • Oversees receipt and distribution of housekeeping supplies. Ensures appropriate inventory of housekeeping materials, supplies and equipment is main­tained, and requi­sitions replacement items as needed.

  • Assists Manager in evaluating physical condi­tion of facilities and furnishings in assigned areas, and recommends necessary repairs, painting, or replacements.

Working Conditions:

  • Requires working in a normal office environment where there are relatively few physical discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise, and the like as well as works within the hospital in various departments that may require some precaution.

  • Requires working with equipment and/or performing procedures where carelessness could result in minor cuts, bruises, or muscle pulls.

  • Requires some walking up and down stairs, and hallways, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Work requires a high school level of educational development and one (1) to two (2) years of previous and progressively more responsible work-related experience plus three (3) to six (6) months of on-the-job training and orientation. Prior supervisory experience preferred.

  • No certification, registration, or licensure required.

  • Work requires the analytical ability necessary to resolve the day‑to‑day problems related to the supervision of colleagues. Requires independent judgment to respond to emergencies and to prioritize service requests.

  • Work requires the ability to assign, distribute and follow up on the work of other colleagues within the unit; provide input into the performance appraisals of assigned colleagues; and enforce unit work rules and policies.
