Sodexo has an exciting new opportunity for a self-motivated, result driven Operations Manager for its School Services segment at Springfield Public Schools (SPS) . The individual willlead the school food service team for a large urban school district in Springfield, Massachusetts. The SPS district serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks to 25,000 students in approximately 60 schools.
The Operations Manager’s primary focus will be on improving quality, service and a strong adherence to food and physical safety programs. This position requires hands-on food production and service expertise with the ability to train and direct 5 Zone Chef/Managers. The individual will utilize food management software, facilitate manager/staff training and assist with maintaining current successful strategies and working to execute new programs. This position will report to the Home Grown CNC General Manager.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will:
Possess a strong focus on exceptional culinary execution and premier service
Assess training programs to build a successful versatile food service team
Assist and develop a strategic marketing program to increase student meal participation
Conduct site visits to assess current food service programs and implement corrective measures
Develop written policies and procedures to standardize operations
Analyze menu data and implement solutions that create student awareness and acceptance
Develop performance metrics: participation, labor, food costs, inventory/waste to improve profitability
Work a flexible schedule when traveling to SPS sites to assist managers/staff, and attend meetings
On a few occasions the candidate will need to work evenings, weekends or holidays
Represent the Home Grown brand and Sodexo in a manner that enhances the Company’s reputation
Preferred candidate will have
A bachelor’s degree in restaurant/food service management, culinary arts or food related degree
A minimum 5 years relevant work experience
The ability to demonstrate results in leading an experienced management team
Experience managing USDA school meal programs
Strong hands-on operational experience that creates cohesive teams
ServSafe and Allergen training certified
Ability to create Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) temperature procedure plans
Decision-making and problem solving skills
Great culinary/business acumen and knowledgeable of the latest trends in the K-12 school segment
Proficient computer skills with the Microsoft suite software to include Word, Excel, Power Point
Ability to be a self-starter as well as team player
Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills
Ability to communicate new ideas, products and programs to internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to manage time effectively

Position Summary
Provides leadership and supervision for the on-site food service exempt and non-exempt level staff in the delivery of our contractual agreement with the client. Provides supervision for food services at account/unit to ensure client satisfaction and retention for the company. Implements business practices in order to uphold company mission, values and commitments made in the Sodexo client contractual agreement.
Key Duties
Establishes a safe work environment
Utilizes Sodexo tools and programs to develop client, customer, and staff relationships, to ensure account retention
Implements and fully utilizes all Sodexo tools and programs to ensure financial outcomes
Directs daily operations of food service to ensure employees have appropriate equipment, inventory and resources, ensures operating standards and regulatory requirements are met
Develops and implements plans, projects, with defined objectives, methods, timetables and budget to support client and Sodexo strategic plan
Ensures adherence to all HR standards for Sodexo, client, and regulatory agencies
Qualifications & Requirements
Basic Education Requirement - Associate's Degree or equivalent experience
Basic Management Experience - 2 years
Basic Functional Experience - 2 years work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
