This position will support the MassMutual Direct to Consumer team. The DTC team is responsible for business and model exploration, refinement and evolution. We seek to do this in a high caliber team. We are a flat organization, working as a cohesive team on multiple ideas/pilots, scaling existing businesses at any given time. The Term Life Insurance Product Manager focuses on defining the protection product to best serve the target market’s needs. Once identified, this role will focus on developing, launching and scaling protection product solutions that will meet the needs of the target market. This individual will be responsible for product development, underwriting strategy, distribution planning, delivery, financial stability and overall performance of all protection products.
Key performance indicators include Acquisition Allowable, Retained Business, Mortality Rates, Profitability and Value of New Business (VNB).
- Acts as Business advocate with Legal and Compliance teams, as well as any government agency (as appropriate) Championing change to meet the needs of target consumers.
Accountable for developing the multi-year direct term insurance product roadmap.
Responsible for building/developing and managing new and existing term products within the context of marketability, competitive intelligence, retention and financial results, and organizational priorities and capabilities; ensures products can be advertised through direct marketing channels, distributed through call center, online/digitally and direct mail sales channels and build direct relationships between the MM brand and the consumer.
In partnership with the internal product team, defines and delivers new innovative product offerings that will create differentiators ensuring MM leads the industry in financial solutions– including identification of new product ideas, pricing strategy, identification of pricing assumptions and ongoing analysis.
Acts as Strategy Lead during product launch to ensure strategy and business impact goals are met; develops phased approach to meet critical business requirements and marketing needs while developing optimization requirements for future phases.
Partners with marketing team to develop premium goals and objectives, projections, and consumer demographics.
Product Delivery Strategy: Business owner accountable for applications, policies, forms and legal disclosures – and overall Legal and Compliance Risk. Ensures business adheres to Legal and Compliance requirements across every marketing channel, distribution partner and service center.
Designs applications, policies, forms and legal disclosures (filed and not filed), gathering appropriate feedback and approval.
Develops filing approach and roadmap to ensure business needs and timelines are met. Partner with filing company and internal stakeholders to successfully file products across product lines.
Reviews and approves all consumer facing communications for product accuracy.
Acts as Business advocate with Legal and Compliance teams, as well as any government agency (as appropriate) Championing change to meet the needs of target consumers.
Product Performance Strategy: Accountable for overseeing and managing product performance to ensure lead yield, profitability, retention and VNB key performance indicators are met.
Analyzes, monitors and reports on performance results; partner with Analytics and Finance teams to understand the drivers behind performance – monitors KPIs daily and weekly, and present results, actions plans and strategic updates.
Develops new strategic initiatives and manages implementation of those initiatives through partnership with functional areas. Where initiatives are successful, determines scaling plan, including team, operations, etc. and ongoing key business indicators.
Coaches, mentors and develops others on own team or within matrixed organizations.
Identifies developmental strengths and weaknesses of assigned areas and ensures necessary programs, and resources are made available to support development needs.
Establish and assess the achievement of realistic, challenging objectives through regular communication and a formal performance management program.
Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the US
Deep understanding of insurance industry, specifically life insurance
Versatile, flexible, and displays a willingness to work within changing priorities with enthusiasm, commitment to excellence, and high standards
Exhibits highest level of communication acumen, necessary to interface, provide context and solicit information at all levels of the company, and in interactions with partners outside of MassMutual
Able to function effectively in a dedicated team based environment
Individual typically has at least 5+ years of related experience
4 year college degree
