Law Clerk Position Purpose/Summary This is a legal department internship position assisting in the housing and building departments for the City of Springfield, with the primary areas of concentration in the fields of litigation, municipal and property law. Essential Functions Assisting the City Solicitor and attorneys in the department in preparing court documents and researching the law on a multitude of litigation matters. Providing administrative support for legal staff in researching the law to provide opinions to the Mayor, department heads and boards, councils and commissions. Appearing on the City\'s behalf in the Western Division Housing Court in enforcement actions. Drafting legal memoranda and pleadings and providing support to the City Solicitor and attorneys. Performing related clerical support as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of legal research processes. Ability to make work decisions in accordance with laws, rules, policies and procedures governing legal matters and work performed. Ability to write legal memoranda and pleadings, and to orally argue motions before the Court. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, involved parties, and the general public. Education and Experience A student currently enrolled in the second year of an accredited law school.
