Description:

Trinity Health Of New England is looking for a Metabolic and Surgery Coordinator (RN) to join our team of mission-driven healthcare innovators. The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) Coordinator is an RN serving as the liaison between Mercy Medical Center, the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), the Joint Commission, all surgeons performing Metabolic and Bariatric surgery, and if applicable, all general surgeons providing call coverage. The MBS Coordinator may as serve in the role of the MBS Clinical Reviewer.

You Will Be Responsible For :

  • Oversees and tracks patients referred into the Weight Loss Center

  • Manages the accreditation process and ensures continuous compliance with MBSAQIP and Joint Commission requirements.

  • Acts as the single point of contact for the multidisciplinary team assembled for both the Bariatric and Spine Programs.

  • Participates in medical record review/abstraction of various initiatives. Makes recommendations to management for follow-up actions.

  • Works cooperatively with appropriate department managers/supervisors to develop corrective action plans to improve outcomes. Acts as a consultant/clinical resource person to the manager/supervisor and assists them in monitoring compliance with the improvements needed. Actively participates in program improvements or changes as it matures or the environment changes.

  • Assists with the development and implementation of policies, procedures, corrective action plans, and quality improvement activities as directed. Maintains relevant policies and procedures.

  • Provides accurate and comprehensive direct communication with referring providers and patients regarding their status within the program.

  • Co-chairs the MBS committee meetings with the program Director.

  • Prepares monthly/quarterly reports to be presented internally and externally as needed.

  • Develops educational materials appropriate for the patients requiring bariatric surgical intervention. Implements professional and community-based educational programs with respect to Obesity and Spine health and its related disease processes.

  • Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.

  • Tracks and manages outcomes-based data for the practice. As needed, works closely with the MBS Clinical Reviewer and practice coordinator to assure timely submission of outcomes data.

  • Completes assessments and reassessments according to patient need and as outlined in policy and Standards of Care.

  • Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements. Utilizes evidence-based practice or research within clinical practice.

  • Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for whom care is provided.

  • Evaluates patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with physicians and dietitians. Evaluates patient's response and the effectiveness of patient teaching.

  • Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record in a legible and timely fashion and in accordance with policy. Documentation reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient's response to treatment.

  • Provides education of relevant staff in the various aspects of the care of MBS patients with a focus on patient safety in the post-operative period.

  • Supports the development of written protocols and education of inpatient nurses detailing the rapid communication and basic response to critical vital signs that is specifically required to minimize delays in the diagnosis and treatment of serious adverse events.

  • Maintains clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations.

  • Develops and institutes quality initiatives with the MBS and Spine directors. Actively participates in performance measures of national nursing quality indicators.

Requirements:

  • Education : Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.

  • Licensure : Current licensure as a registered nurse (RN) in Massachusetts

  • Experience : Work requires skills normally obtained through three (3) to five (5) years’ nursing experience. Excellent problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking skills along with excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.Must be able to work in a self-directed environment.

  • Certification : BLS certification required

  • Ability to pass drug screenings and background checks

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience : Knowledge and experience in Bariatric surgical patient care preferred
