Description:

Position Purpose :

The Operating Room Assistant performs various duties related to patient assistance, patient transportation and the cleaning of the operating rooms and general surgical area. Provides direct patient care to all ages of patients. Assists throughout the department to provide positive patient outcomes.

What you will do:

  • Cleans and sanitizes all operating rooms, ancillary rooms, and offices within specified areas.

  • Assists OR personnel with obtaining, assembling and assuring the safety of the positioning equipment used on the operating table as needed.

  • When necessary, transports patients in a safe, courteous and respectful manner.

  • Performs major cleaning within the department including walls, windows, high areas, corridors, and floors as instructed.

  • Assists OR personnel with the set-up of operating room procedures, turnover, and terminal cleaning of rooms at the end of the day.

  • Assists OR personnel with positioning of patients on the operating table as needed.

Physical and Mental requirements and Working conditions:

  • Requires working with equipment weighing up to 40 pounds or performing procedures where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises or muscle pulls.

  • Requires regular and routine exposure to occupational hazards or contagious disease which requires use of Universal Precautions.

  • Requires ability to reach and grasp objects and ability to hear.

  • Requires considerable physical effort on a consistent basis as in lifting, pulling or pushing an unyielding load (heavy, bulky, awkward, more than forty (40) pounds.

  • Requires exposure to blood and various body fluids, which requires caution and use of established safety guidelines and equipment using Universal Precautions.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Education : High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a healthcare facility as an orderly or transport aide preferably in a surgical or similar environment

  • Certified in CPR required or must be obtained within six (6) weeks of hire.

  • Comfortable with : Repetitive Heavy lifting/pulling (Equipment and Patient transport)
