Description:

Trinity Health Of New England’s Student Nurse Internship (SNI)) is truly unique. It is a 12-month program that starts with an intensive, 8-week summer program during which the student nurse works alongside a nurse in assistive role as a professional nursing assistant (PNA). In addition to working as a PNA, the intern will be able to observe and learn from the nurse the daily tasks being performed on that unit. They will have the opportunity to experience days of shadowing and learn directly from a nurse preceptor in various areas in the hospital to gain knowledge, critical thinking and technical skills and while prioritizing care. Students will also participate in weekly educational activities designed to reinforce what they are learning in the clinical practice environment.

After successful completion of the 8-week summer program, the SNI will continue their employment within Trinity Health Of New England in a per diem position throughout their final year of nursing school, assigned to a nurse mentor who continues to guide their learning and contributions within the clinical practice environment. SNIs will meet quarterly as a cohort to participate in learning and sharing of experiences.

Student Nurse Interns in good standing will be invited to apply for the 2024 Nurse Residency Program. Our Vizient Nurse Residency Program is designed to support and help new graduate nurses as they transition into professional practice.
