WATER SAFETY DIRECTOR Position Purpose/Summary Responsible for the aquatic facility operations including, but not limited too, the overall summer swim program, develop and implement orientation, oversee the ID System and staff, supervising the life guarding team and bath attendants, maintaining the swim facilities, planning and conducting in-service trainings, maintaining and filing all required paperwork, helping with weekly payroll, disciplining staff as necessary and preventing and responding to emergencies. Essential Functions ? Supervising all summer swim program staff ? Supervising the safety inspections, general care, and cleaning of the facility ? Enforce all aquatic rules, policies, and regulations to ALL patrons ? Make sure all paperwork is completed fully and correctly ? Conduct regular in-service training sessions and document results ? Make sure the ID system is working at each facility and train as necessary ? Instruct, assign, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards in the performance of their duties ? Train staff on water sanitation/testing procedures and filter systems ? Document daily activities and staffing patterns- document everything. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge and application of life guarding surveillance and rescue techniques The ability to instruct, assign, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards in the performance of their duties An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, polices, and procedures Leadership and public relation skills Decision making skills / ability to problem solve Supervisory management skills Ability to identify hazards and unsafe practices and to make suitable recommendations for minimizing or eliminating those hazards Application of all forms and proper usage Education and Experience One year of lifeguard experience preferred Current certification in the following is needed: American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training/First Aid American Red Cross or American Heart CPR for the Professional Rescuer American Red Cross Waterfront Life guarding Instructor Certification is a plus
