Department of Fire Services Recruit Instructional Asst Program Coord in Stow, Massachusetts

The Department of Fire Services (DFS) is seeking to fill the position of Instructional Assistant Program Coordinator - Recruit at the Stow campus. This is a part-time, contract position with no benefits. The Massachusetts Firefighting Academy (MFA), within the Department of Fire Services, provides fire training to municipal fire service personnel. The career recruit program offered by the Massachusetts Fire Academy is a 10-week recruit training program. The Academy additionally offers over 300 topical continuing education courses and fire officer training to over 14,000 students annually. Duties: Responsible for providing supervision of multiple recruit classes at the Stow campus. Reviews and summarizes student evaluations. Conducts program review for program area and becomes involved in re-development of existing programs and development of new programs. Prepares new equipment and/or replacement equipment lists annually and submits to Recruit Program Coordinator. Works closely with support branch of DFS to ensure proper equipment and media are delivered to training sites. Develops new instructors through coaching, mentoring, teaching and guiding. Observes instructors and provides guidance in program delivery. Actively participates in coordinator meetings. Researches, evaluates, and prepares recommendations on curricula, instructional methods, and materials for the program. Develops tests, questionnaires, and procedures to measure effectiveness of curriculum and to determine if program objectives are met. Recommends purchase of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and visual aids to meet the needs of the program. Works with staff in assessment, curriculum development, management of student behavior, and use of materials and equipment. Observes, evaluates, and recommends changes in work of instructional staff to strengthen teaching skills in classroom. Plans, conducts, and evaluates training programs and other learning opportunities for instructors to study new classroom procedures, instructional materials, and teaching aids. Reviews written test scores and skill sheets and counsels students when necessary. Prepares subjective evaluations on students for outstanding performance and non-acceptable performance and counsels the student and notifies the Chief of the Department. May be assigned additional projects by MFA management. Be familiar with LMS functions pertaining to the Recruit Program as needed. Travel to respective three campuses as necessitated. Program coordination and alignment with Officer of the Day (OD) Completion of all mandatory assigned training by prescribed deadline. Qualifications Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Must have a minimum of three years of relevant fire service or emergency service industry experience such as a fire officer, fire investigator, training officer, or fire prevention position. Must be an instructor within a training program for a minimum of five years. Must have completed Fire Instructor II course and been promoted to Fire Instructor II with the MFA or a minimum of three years of equivalent experience of instructional curricuculm development and course delivery. Preferred Qualifications: Fire Instructor II certification. Superior interpersonal skills; well organized; and a team player Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Demonstrated work record to support the skills required. Thorough knowledge of the Recruit program Proficiency understanding NFPA 1001. An Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer.
