State of Massachusetts Chaplain II in Taunton, Massachusetts

Taunton State Hospital, operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH), is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Chaplain II. The Chaplain II will conduct individual and group counseling with clients, their family members and agency staff; confer with administrators, clinicians, direct care and clinical/treatment teams and other groups to identify needs, facilitate provision of services and further the purpose and philosophy of the particular department or facility; conduct training workshops, seminars and conferences; maintain liaison relationships with community, civic and education personnel and organizations; and will provide for the spiritual needs of clients. This position also provides pastoral care and counseling in times of crisis and provides consultation on issues related to religion, morality, and ethics; provides consultation to facility administrators regarding religious activities, and any issues related to morals, ethics, values, death and dying and human rights; provides orientation training to new staff on religious resources and services available to patients; and will organize, implement, and supervise the Spiritual Volunteer Program. _Please Note_: This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week on the first shift. The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday with flexibility to work off shifts. The days off will be Sunday and Saturday. _Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive):_ * Conducts individual and group counseling sessions with patients, family members and staff to provide spiritual, moral, and ethical assistance. * Work within Community to develop volunteer program encompassing a variety of spiritual counseling and services. * Recruit, train, and manage religious volunteers and the volunteer programs to meet the religious needs of patients. * Assist in the development of discharge planning to meet the religious and spiritual needs of the patients while transitioning back into the community. * Completes a spiritual assessment with each client. * Consults with staff, treatment teams, administrative and/or program groups to identify needs establish programs and facilitate the provision of agency services. * Provides pastoral care and counseling in times of crisis (e.g., death, critical or serious illness) and provides consultation on issues related to religion, morality, and ethics. * Offers spiritual/ religious education/support addressing the needs of the individual served. * Provides consultation to facility administrators regarding spiritual/religious activities, and any issues related to morals, ethics, values, death and dying and human rights, as these issues impact up on clients, their family members and facility staff. * Advocates with Human Rights Committees and facility administrators for religious, civil and human rights of clients and staff and facilitates the expression of values leading the fulfillment of human potential. * Provides orientation training to new staff on spiritual/religious resources and services available to clients and staff. * Participates in denominational and interfaith organizations as well as conferences, workshops, seminars and other continuing education opportunities to enhance religious and clinical competencies and/or to maintain religious standing. * Provides information and reports needed to facilitate the exchange of information with facility administration and staff and/or religious, community, civic and social agencies and to promote acceptance of the population served. * Keeps informed of developments in resources, policies, practices, and trends affecting the population served. * Participates on various local and statewide committees and organizations, attends relevant meetings as needed and is present at public and facility functions. _ License and/or Certification Requirements:_ * Ordination or other recognition as a religious leader/teacher based on the requirements of the population served and the specific requirements of the religion concerned. Refer to individual position descriptions for specific requirements. * Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state. _About Taunton State Hospital:_ Taunton State Hospital (TSH) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is a 62-bed inpatient facility that provides continuing care inpatient services to adults with major mental illnesses. The hospital is a leader in the successful integration of the Principles of Recovery and a rehabilitation philosophy into the treatment model and a part of the Southeast Area which works closely with the inpatient treatment teams to facilitate patients’ discharge back to the community.
