The Industrial Controls Technician coordinates and services maintenance and electrical functions safely to ensure that the plant equipment performs at maximum levels while minimizing unscheduled interruption of the plant operation. In addition, this individual is also responsible for the training and counseling others on controls, electrical maintenance procedures, equipment troubleshooting and best practices. Repair and maintenance of manufacturing production machines and facility support equipment. Inspect, maintain, repair, troubleshoot and preventative maintenance of electrical systems and Industrial Network, including, PLCs, variable speed drives, control panel circuitry, high temperature ovens, facility power and HVAC.
The Industrial Controls Technician coordinates and services maintenance and electrical functions safely to ensure that the plant equipment performs at maximum levels while minimizing unscheduled interruption of the plant operation. In addition, this individual is also responsible for training on electrical maintenance procedures. Ensures operation of machinery and electrical equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements on drives, back-up power systems, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and other electrical related systems. Maintains electrical controls software in support of programming for the facility. Participate in OPL’s for maintenance and operator training. Programs HMIs, PLCs, Servos, and other electrical systems. Ensures plant Industrial Network is effective and meets business standards.
Makes timely and appropriate decisions when an emergency or breakdown occurs so that production interruption is minimized. Assists in root cause failure analysis (Kaizen) for chronic problems or to identify appropriate maintenance practices. Diagnose electrical problems and determine how to correct them, checking schematics, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary. Uses PLC, computer interfaces for troubleshooting as needed. Demonstrates flexibility to perform various roles within the maintenance department as assigned. Responds to emergency maintenance service requests accordingly.
Supports new equipment specification review.
Must observe and enforce all safety rules, working conditions and habits of employees. Must abide by the Workplace Safety Guidelines and Company Policies.
Maintain, troubleshoot and repair of process and facility mechanical and electrical equipment.
Possess a strong desire to apply the philosophy of Safety and “Continuous Improvement” in all areas.
Supports engineering with Manufacturing 4.0 and automation initiatives.
Perform routine electrical and mechanical preventative maintenance (PM/PdM) and inspection of process and facility support equipment.
Assist in the emergency troubleshooting and repair of process and facility equipment with plant personnel, contractors and vendors.
Oversee contractor electrical upgrades and repairs and maintain electrical code compliance and 5S.
Maintain shop cleanliness, in accordance with company 5S policy and guidelines.
Monitor, maintain and purchase inventory of replacement components.
Proactive maintenance planning
Reporting on maintenance tasks & projects
Strong skills in planning, organizing, knowledge of programmable logic controllers, electrical systems, and process control systems is required.
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Associates Degree preferred.
Works well independently and with others
3+ years of experience as a Maintenance Technician or relevant manufacturing experience
Reading comprehension, mathematics and writing
Good oral and written communication
Organized with attention to detail
Must be competent in all of the following skills:
Process control programming and trouble shooting
PLC’s: Allen Bradley, Siemens, Automation Direct
Basic Knowledge of AC and DC circuits and trouble shooting ability
Ability to utilize CAD software for creating and modifying schematics and drawings
Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office.
Ability to set up, calibrate and troubleshoot pressure, temperature, flow meters
Knowledge of control networks (IP and Modbus) and SCADA systems
0-10 volt and 4-20 ma loop knowledge and troubleshooting
VFD knowledge and configuration
Ability to work in a respectful way in a collaborative environment.
Ability to work as a team to meet goals/KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators).
Must be able to work a variety of shifts including weekends and evenings for emergency service and scheduled coverage
Lifting Requirement of 35 lbs, weights above 35 lbs require assistance.
