State of Massachusetts Residential Substance Use/Addictions Counselor - (HSC II) in Taunton, Massachusetts

The Southeast Area OnGrounds Program is seeking an experienced individual who will Serves as Substance Use/Addictions Counselor (Human Services Coordinator II) for the Southeast Area OnGrounds Residential Program. Screens and assesses person served on an ongoing basis regarding substance use/addictions issues. Serves as a member of the Program’s clinical team to provide ongoing teaching and modeling to GLE staff and provide direct interventions and supports to Persons Served with substance use/addictions issues. Provides trauma-informed, person-centered community based interventions to assigned caseload. Participates in the development of Community Service Plans (CSPs) with assigned caseload. Ensures appropriate linkage to substance use/addictions resources in the community. Please Note: This position is 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will work 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The days off will be Sunday/Saturday. _Duties and Responsibilities (these duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive):_ * Functions as a Substance Use/Addictions Counselor for assigned persons within the OnGrounds Program * Provides ongoing screening/assessments and reassessments for assigned individuals related to substance use/addictions issues, addiction risk and addiction treatment needs. * Provides competency-based, evidence-based, and best practice interventions related to substance use/addictions issues including: Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral for Treatment (SBIRT), Stages of Change model, Motivational Interviewing, and Harm Reduction. * Develops formulations that address the level of substance use and potential risk, the current impact of substances or potentially addictive behavior, and the Persons Served readiness for change. * Provide and/or coordinate with Care Coordination Entities to ensure Persons have access to community-based clinical, self-help and peer, medication assisted treatment, and psycho-educational services that address addiction treatment and related issues (e.g., HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis C and relapse prevention.) * Responsible for the development of a CSP for each person assigned that is completed within the 45 day time limit, and all corresponding clinical documentation * Coordinates discharge planning for dually diagnosed or substance active persons served _Required Qualifications:_ Thorough knowledge of human growth and development. Considerable knowledge of the social, emotional and experiential causes of dysfunctional behavior. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of psychosocial diagnosis. Considerable knowledge of the casework treatment process and of interviewing techniques. Considerable knowledge of community resources as related to implementing treatment plans. Considerable knowledge of special treatment modalities including family therapy and group treatment, brief therapy.Ability to conceptualize and implement treatment plans as they develop from psychosocial diagnosis. Ability to establish and sustain appropriate therapeutic relationships. Ability to evaluate crisis situations and to respond with appropriate social work therapeutic intervention. Ability to work collaboratively with other mental health disciplines. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in written format, expressing thoughts clearly and developing ideas in a logical sequence _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADAC) or Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADAC) is necessary for this function. A Master's Degree in a related field and independent licensure preferred. * Current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor vehicle operator’s license or equivalent is necessary for this function. * Professional licensure in a human service field including but not limited to LCSW, LICSW, LMHC. * Previous experience providing services to individuals with co-occurring disorders: substance use disorders and mental illness. * Previous experience working with people with chronic mental illness. * Experience working in a 24/7 residential program for adults with mental illness. * Experience providing ongoing screening/assessments related to substance use/addictions issues, addiction risk and addiction treatment needs specifically the Brief Intervention and Referral for Treatment (SBIRT), Stages of Change Model, Motivational Interviewing and Harm Reduction. * Experience providing individual and group substance use counseling. * Bi-Lingual _DMH Mission Statement:_ On Grounds Program is part of the Taunton/Attleboro Site that transitions clients from an inpatient setting to a more independent community living setting.
