Job Summary:

Seeking a group manager within the R&D (Research and Development) organization driving New Product Development and Introduction (NPD/NPI). Role includes management of engineers, scientists, and technicians in a lab and office environment based in Tewksbury, MA. Drive development in accordance to applicable Xylem development processes and Xylem project management principles with support of project managers. Work closely with product management to execute the development roadmap. Drive technical differentiation, expertise, intellectual property all with the goal of growth and expansion of product portfolios. Role is focused on our Electro-Dionization (EDI) product families.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Manage engineers, scientists, and technicians supporting New Product Development and Introduction (NPI)

  • Drive technical differentiation of products through mechanical design, process improvements, material changes, generation of intellectual property

  • Own and manage the budget for development and leverage resources to drive the product roadmap in collaboration with product management.

  • Support the growth of the EDI product family through NPI, VAVE (Value Engineering), and application expansion

  • Understand and evaluate competitive offerings and emerging technology and trends in ultrapure water and electrochemical treatment

  • Manage test stands, labs, equipment, and processes. Ensure safe operation, calibration, maintenance, etc.

  • Manage stakeholder communication and expectations relative to projects and goals

  • Develop the team’s skills, abilities, and knowledge for sustained growth and improvement

  • Understand key market, application, and performance needs/requirements and impacts to product performance and product design

  • Adapt/improve products for specific market needs aligned to product roadmap

Additional responsibilities:

  • Generate novel IP including patents, trade secrets, invention disclosures

  • Generate internal technical documentation (reports, memos, etc) and external technical documentation (technical papers, conference presentations, technical bulletins)

  • Contribute to continuously improve applicable processes

  • Support/lead/mentor other R&D team members, where needed

  • Support product roadmapping, drive technology roadmapping

  • Align and coordinate resources across multiple locations/functions/levels including US and SG factories and product teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or related Science required. Masters degree preferred. PhD a strong plus.

  • Prior management experience working with new technology and/or product development

  • Experience working in a lab environment and working with water treatment.

  • Experience with electro-membrane or electro-chemical treatment a strong plus

  • Experience evaluating and developing novel and emerging technology is preferred

  • Experience working in an international environment in a global matrix organization desired

  • Demonstrate excellent computer, communication, presentation, management and analytical skills.

  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork and problem-solving skills in order to effectively work with stakeholders from a variety of skill levels as well as different authority levels.

  • Fluent in English; multi-lingual capabilities desirable

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Salary range:

$71,000.00 - $113,500.00
