Department of Public Health - Tewksbury Mental Health Worker I in Tewksbury, Massachusetts

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking dynamic candidates who will provide direct care services to individuals by participating and instructing activities of daily living including, but not limited to personal care, community integration and recreation/leisure to ensure daily needs, rehabilitation needs, and human rights are met. Mental Health Workers treat all patients with dignity and respect through interactions which affirm the individual?s needs and preferences and by optimally integrating their perspective into all facets of care. Please note: 1st shift 7:00am-3:30pm 2nd shift 3:00pm-11:30pm 3rd shift 11:15pm-7:15am Employees in this position will be required to perform mandatory overtime. Base salary does not include shift differential Full time 40 hours per week, days off will be discussed during the interview process. Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive): Assists with activities of daily care, treatment and rehabilitation of homeless and mentally ill individuals. Administers and/or assists clients in self-medication by following specific instructions concerning appropriate treatment as instructed by licensed medical personnel and/or MAP policies/procedures. Assists professional or medical staff in providing services to clients as needed including, but not limited to obtaining prescription medications, participating in treatment plans, waiting for transportation services, etc. Promotes the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; ensure all human rights are met. Assists in the general cleaning of residence and/or facility by performing housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe environment. Supports clients in scheduling appointments by providing guidance, necessary documentation, and providing transportation to aid in accessing appropriate and necessary services. Attends and participates in all interdisciplinary meetings including, but not limited to, intershift, supervision, treatment planning, and training seminars. Communicates individuals? progress or regress by verbally reporting to the supervisor or designee, participating in treatment plan and nursing care plan meetings to ensure continuity of patient care. Documents observations and notes in clients? records as directed in order to provide written follow through of verbal reports; updates forms as needed. Required Qualifications: Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Capacity to perform basic mathematics. Proven ability to gather information through observing and questioning individuals. Talent for communicating effectively in oral expression, writing clearly and concisely, and developing ideas in logical sequence. Skilled in interacting with people who are under emotional stress with the ability to maintain a calm manner in stressful or emergency situations. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with individuals with serious, persistent mental illness, substance abuse and/or who have experienced homelessness. Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.
