Job Summary:

Here at RMD, we specialize in air and missile defense, large-land, and sea-based radars, and systems for managing command, control, and communication. Our SPE team consists of more than 1800 software engineers with a central focus on real-time software development, integration, testing, and validation activities. This is how we do our part in keeping our country safe.

We are seeking Principal Software Engineers to join the Patriot Fielded Systems and Validation Department in Tewksbury MA. All teams develop software in a variety of languages including C++, C, Java and several others. Candidates can expect to work on many if not all the phases of the software development life cycle. In this position, you will be responsible for providing practical solutions to difficult technical software problems. You can expect to support multiple products and multiple platforms within the Patriot software product line. Software Engineering positions include working on a variety of different tasks including real-time software development, application software development, test and verification, data analysis, software tools development, gaming and many others.

  • Displays initiative and can work well alone or as a member of a team

  • Follows organizational processes and procedures

  • Reviews software products for soundness of technical judgment and adequacy

  • Interacts with senior software personnel through both written and verbal communication

  • Produces documentation related to the design and release of software artifacts

  • Develops complete software solutions, and influences the successful completion of supported programs and projects

  • Understands and utilizes agile software development methods, automation, and continuous integration

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Develop robust and scalable software on a variety of computing platforms using Agile development methods.

  • Design, implement, debug and problem solve while providing feedback to other team members.

  • Help improve code quality by supporting software integration, verification and performing code reviews.

  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute ideas to our technology, algorithms and products.

  • Work in a team environment with the product and design teams to understand end-user requirements, formulate use cases, and then translate that into a pragmatic and effective technical solution.

  • Dive into difficult problems and successfully deliver results on schedule along with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related field and 8+ years of experience OR in absence of a degree, 12 years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience

  • Experience with a modern software language (such as C, C++, or Java).

  • Experience using Unix or Linux Operating Systems

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

  • Knowledge of data structures and algorithms, systems software design, operating systems, architectures, software development life cycle and processes.

  • Experience developing software in a team-based development environment, preferably Agile/SCRUM, DevOps and test automation

  • Radar domain knowledge

  • Software development experience in a DoD environment

  • Broad real-time, multi-threaded software development experience

  • Experience with ClearCase, Git or other configuration management tool

  • Experience with a scripting language such as Perl, Bash, Kornshell

  • Experience with Collaborator or other source code review tool

  • Experience with Coverity or other static analysis tool

  • Experience with GIT, Jira, Artifactory, BitBucket, Coverity, Grafana

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, including ability to produce technical documentation, and the desire to learn new technologies and tools

  • Able to travel domestic and international

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coworkers from diverse communities and cultures.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution styles.
