The Arc of Opportunity Skills Trainer in Uxbridge, Massachusetts
The Skills Trainer assists the individual in normative home based activities and during community based activities to increase the individual’s development of independent living and community living skills.
Position schedule: Tuesday (3:30 pm - 6pm), Thursday (3:30 pm - 6pm)
Assists the individual in participating in home based activities and community based activities, both generic and specialized.
Works in the home with the individual to help increase daily living skills or independent living skills, including hygiene tasks, chores, meal preparation, money management, etc.
Works in the community with individuals to help increase community living skills development, which may include learning to use the library, making a purchase at a store, or participating in a group based community setting like a swim program or the gym.
Actively advocates for individuals served and demonstrates agency mission and values in all interpersonal and professional relations.
Knowledgeable about community resources to better assist individuals served in achieving their goals while seeking to empower and enhance their quality of life.
Conducts oneself professionally by maintaining respect, following regulations and agency policies and adhering to confidentiality requirements in all assigned duties.
Attends mandatory trainings and meetings as assigned and required. Maintains all required certifications.
Cross functional communication skills, in written and oral English, which convey clear & concise information in a professional & respectful manner to individuals supported, family members/guardians, government agencies, community partners & employees.
Physical demands include: Frequent standing, pushing, pulling, walking, stooping, lifting and twisting.
A High School Diploma or GED is required, experience in relevant field preferred.
A valid driver’s license and acceptable CORI/Finger printing and driving record are required at all times during employment with The Arc of Opportunity. Use of personal vehicles is required and must meet all state requirements to include valid registration, insurance, and safety standards.
Flexible schedule required.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to kneel, bend and carry items.
Ability to physically assist individuals according to their needs.
Ability to sustain periods of walking, standing, and sitting.
Ability to see, speak and hear.
Ability to perform physical restraint if necessary.
Demonstrated superior communication skills, both in verbal and written English.
Functional and situational reasoning to follow policy, problem solve, exercise sound judgment, prioritize multiple tasks, and manage crisis.
Computer literacy skills.
