The Associate Product Manager is responsible for managing multiple Olympus Life Science products. They provide product and applications support for research microscopes and their associated peripherals. The incumbent develops and executes marketing plans to successfully introduce a limited range of new microscopy product into the marketplace. The Associate Product Manager monitors and evaluates product performance and provide critical performance data to Olympus Tokyo. They also provide technical support to field sales personnel and customers.
Review and analyze market studies, trade literature, and internet sources to formulate ideas and opinions on areas of opportunity presented by the marketplace. Maintain files of competitive material for reference.
Monitor initial product sales of newly launched products and track sales data against projected sales, revenue, and profit. Develop and implement counter-trend strategies, e.g. special promotions, when sales are lower than projections.
Monitor customer satisfaction with initial installations and use of newly launched products. Communicate closely with technical staff in the field on product performance issues. Visit customer sites. Lead user meetings to discuss product performance. Document any performance problems of deficiencies noted. Assemble, edit, and transmit all critical information back to Olympus Tokyo.
Monitor and evaluate the competition’s response to the new product introduction. Initiate appropriate action to counter competitive activities.
Provide technical assistance to customers who are looking to purchase a product. Provide expert opinions on the benefits of Olympus products and offer possible solutions to the problems as described by the customer.
Assist in managing trade show participation to promote the sales of assigned products.
Organize and conduct workshops to promote the sale of assigned products. Partner with customers to present the product to other potential customers.
Create product literature based on an in-depth understanding of the key elements of the market.
Perform other duties as assigned.
* Bachelor’s degree in life sciences and/or marketing required. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 1 year of work experience in related field.
Knowledge of the life science research market is required along with experience in advanced microscopy applications such as widefield fluorescence microscopy, confocal and multiphoton microscopy, or high content screening devices.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
The ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% is required.
* Marketing knowledge with some experience in life science field.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects/tasks concurrently under aggressive timelines in a dynamic environment.
Innovative and creative ability to identify and evaluate product and service ideas focusing on those that will create competitive advantage.
Self-starter that is assertive, possesses a high degree of self-confidence and intellectual curiosity, learn quickly, exhibits a bias for action and demonstrates good professional presence.
Comfortable working across functional areas (sales, marketing, finance, operations, etc.).
