This is an on-site and full-time position in Waltham, MA. At Alloy, we have an ethos of “Mentorship-By-Apprenticeship” in all of our positions. The Team
Alloy’s Translational Research team collaborates with drug discovery partners to conduct in vitro studies on therapeutic candidates across diverse modalities. Our team delivers comprehensive functional screening and characterization of biologics to support discovery and selection of lead candidates. Primary modalities are monoclonal and multispecific antibodies, and TCR-mimic antibodies but also include cell therapies and genetic medicines. As Alloy Tx enters its next phase of growth, we are expanding our capabilities to include mechanistic studies that enhance preclinical development and further advance our translational research efforts.
The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Director, In Vitro Screening & Pre-clinical Development to lead our in vitro screening, assay development, and translational research efforts. This role will be responsible for designing and implementing high-throughput and mechanistic in vitro assays while integrating translational insights to bridge discovery and preclinical research. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in immunology, cellular and molecular assay development, and mode-of-action studies to support biologics drug discovery programs.
How You’ll Drive Impact
Strategy: Develop and execute an integrated preclinical in vitro screening and translational immunology strategy to support drug discovery and development.
Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of scientists and research associates in assay development, in vitro screening, and translational immunology.
Produce: Design, validate, and implement robust in vitro assays to assess immune cell function, cytokine profiling, receptor-ligand interactions, and mechanistic pharmacology.
Innovate: Stay current with advancements in immunology, assay technologies, and translational research to enhance discovery-to-clinic transition.
Develop: Functional screening assays for biologics and cell-based therapies to support lead optimization.
Principal Responsibilities
Lead and oversee in vitro screening and translational research initiatives.
Actively contribute to laboratory experiments and project execution.
Provide leadership and mentorship to the research team.
Develop research strategies in collaboration with partners
Collaborate with BD to engage in discussions with potential partners
Organize and align team efforts to ensure efficiency and progress.
Ensure timely and successful execution of project milestones according to plan.
Qualifications
You have a Ph.D. in Immunology, Cell Biology, Translational Medicine, or a related field with 8+ years of experience in preclinical in vitro screening and translational research in an industry setting
You have proven expertise in immune cell-based assays, cytokine profiling, high-throughput screening, and mechanistic studies.
You have a strong background in autoimmune, inflammatory, and oncology-related immunology research.
You have experience leading teams and managing projects in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting.
You have experience supporting IND-enabling studies and regulatory interactions.
You pay attention to details, and you practice rigorous scientific thinking & clear communication skills
You have sense of urgency, speed, persistence, and organization and prefer a dynamic, fun, and exciting work environment
Ability to work across various US and international time zones

Pay Transparency
At Alloy Therapeutics, we believe in fostering trust and open communication. For this role, the estimated annual base salary range is $180,000 - $211,000, with the final offer based on factors like your experience, skills, and alignment with our needs.
Additionally, this role is eligible for equity compensation, reflecting our commitment to shared success as we work together to make better medicines.
