Thermo Fisher Scientific Director of Business Development, Analytical Instruments in Waltham, Massachusetts

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Lead the Business Development process in the area of analytical instruments, including owning the common methodology to evaluate new business opportunities and driving standard M&A processes across AIG businesses

  • Builds and leverages a consistent framework for the development of a proactive inorganic growth strategy that addresses new market opportunities

  • Ensures internal M&A processes and standards are adhered to

  • Drive competitive and market analysis for key strategic and M&A diligence projects and translates information into insights and implications for AIG

  • Identify, define, and articulate industry, market, and emerging trends and how they may affect AIG

  • Directs management attention to competitive practices and resulting opportunities

  • Evaluate white space opportunities for possible expansion

  • Gains deep understanding of AIG portfolio to evaluate gaps across technologies, regions, and customer end markets

  • Analyzes company fundamentals and financial statements to inform a valuation model for potential inorganic opportunities, both acquisitions and partnerships

  • Takes leadership role in negotiations of transactions across acquisitions, divestitures, and potential partnerships

  • Works directly with external third parties to evaluate strategic fit and valuation for inorganic opportunities; liaises with legal and business teams to facilitate conversations as needed

  • Owns quarterly competitive earning analysis process and output

  • Demonstrates and encourages a commitment to quality performance. Able to make hard choices as needed and able to present well thought out, executable plans that show resilience and robustness when encountering opposition

  • Rallies all those within sphere of influence around common goals, leveraging productive relationships globally and cross-functionally. Influences thinking and decision-making across organizational boundaries

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required preferably in business, life sciences, economics or other related field. MBA or related advanced degree desired

  • 7+ years of commercial, business development, and/or marketing in a related industry

  • Demonstrated business acumen and its application to strategic recommendations that align with group, division and business unit goals

  • Experience establishing and delivering on a disciplined approach to managing initiatives

  • Ability to communicate across multiple levels in the organization and navigate a matrix work environment while building consensus

  • Ability to influence individuals and groups internally and externally

  • Demonstrated proactive approach with proven track record of delivering on commitments
