Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston Executive Director, Boston Eye Surgery Laser Center (BESLC) in Waltham, Massachusetts

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall management of two ophthalmic Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASCs): Boston Eye Surgery and Laser Center (BESLC) in Boston, MA and BESLC West in Waltham, MA.

The two ASCs consist of 5 operating rooms and perform more than 10,000 surgical cases annually as well as laser procedures. The ED will also oversee Anesthesia Consultants of Massachusetts, LCC (ACM), the anesthesia provider for BESLC Boston and BESLC West. The combined medical s taff consists of more than 20 licensed providers, Surgeons, as well as over 75 full-time, part time, and per diem clinical and administrative staff members. Combined revenue for the two ASCs is $12M.

The ED will report to the ASC’s President and Medical Directors and will have a working relationship with Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston (OCB) and leadership.

  • Overall responsibility for the administrative management of the ASCs to develop, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and systems to ensure standards of quality, cost-effective patient care, and fulfillment of the ASCs objectives and goals.

  • Oversees the financial and operational plans for the ASCs and ACM, including resource allocation, development and revision of policies and procedures, budget and financial reporting, and performance.

  • Ensures that the ASCs and ACM maximize productivity, patient and staff satisfaction, quality outcomes, and profitability. Prepares and presents quarterly reports to the Board of Directors on operations, financial performance, staff and patient experience, compliance, and quality outcomes. 

  • Implements strategic plans for future growth of the ASCs and ACM and identifies the need to revise and develop plans. Develops and maintains an ongoing public relations & marketing plan to promote the ASCs and increase market share.

  • Ensures regulatory, quality assurance compliance and risk management programs and promotes continuous quality improvement activities. 

  • Responsible for effective inventory management and compliance with budget expectations. 

  • Maintains collaborative team relationships with medical, clinical and administrative peers and colleagues to effectively contribute to the working groups’ achievement of objectives & goals and to foster a positive culture.

    Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.  Master's in health care administration  or public health, or MBA preferred.

  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in ASC management, with demonstrated experience in planning, accreditation, and developing surgery centers.

  • Must be goal oriented with a proven history of building and leading an effective and cohesive team.

  • Must be well-versed in healthcare finance, including reimbursement, billing procedures, revenue cycles, budgeting, financial analysis, managed care, payer contracting, and compliance.

  • Knowledge of information technology for medical, business, and financial operations.

    This is a full-time, 100% on-site position.
