Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific's Information Technology department is seeking an IT Software Developer at our Frederick, MD site supporting an internal MES (Manufacturing Execution System) software platform. The individual will plan, design, and/or implement efficient IT and business system solutions for new product introductions and optimization of manufacturing operations.

This role works closely with Manufacturing Operations across various sites and with other IT application teams as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and enhancing MES systems in a manufacturing environment utilizing .Net and other development platforms

  • Support the development of tools to improve the efficiency of the MES development team

  • Provide analysis and support for production MES systems

  • Leading the adoption and standardization of software architecture, development tools and driving a continuous improvement culture

  • Act as a change agent and mentor to bring new technologies, techniques and principles for software engineering excellence

  • Partnering with Manufacturing Operations in creating business value through new product introductions, productivity, and process improvements

Education

  • BS in Computer Science or similar degree

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ Years in experience as a full stack developer

  • Strong knowledge of OOP using mainstream programming language, such as C# or Java.

  • Experience writing efficient SQL queries for MS SQL Server, MySQL or Oracle

  • Experience with front end frameworks, such as Angular and React

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud architecture using AWS or Azure

  • Strong knowledge of frontend stack (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript)

  • Thorough understanding and ability to use source control / configuration management tools (Git, SVN, etc.)

  • Strong understanding of development SDLC (preferably Iterative/Agile methodology)

  • Experience with Test-Driven Development

  • Experience with Parsec TrakSys 8, 10 is a plus

  • Equipment integration experience using IoT, OPC and/or Kepware is a plus

  • Exposure to ITIL incident management is a plus

  • Life Science industry background is a plus

  • Strong time management skills, prioritization abilities and drive to take ownership of issues and tasks.
