National Grid is hiring a Principal Engineer, Gas Asset Management for our Pressure Regulation department in Waltham, MA.

Job Purpose

This position in Pressure Regulation will support the Compressed Natural Gas and Liquefied Natural Gas assets within Natural Grid. This position requires a strong background in plants with emphasis on instrumentation, controls, storage tanks and rotating machinery.

Key Accountabilities

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Develop National Grid’s Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Asset Management Policy, Strategy, and Plan

  • Work with LNG Plant Operations to identify, investigate, and quantify risks to National Grid’s LNG Facilities in New England

  • Use risk-based analysis to initiate capital projects that upgrade LNG/CNG assets and mitigate risks

  • Create a Capital Plan for National Grid’s LNG/CNG investments

  • Collaborate with Project Engineers, Plant Operations and Process Safety Engineers to develop engineering design specifications for LNG/CNG projects

  • Manage LNG/CNG assets through their asset lifecycle


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited engineering school required

  • 8+ years process or design engineering experience or asset management at an CNG LNG facility or similar, including naval or maritime experience required

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required

  • 1+ year relevant industry experience in process control and instrumentation or relevant educational experience

  • Knowledge of NFPA 52 Code and ANSI/CSA NGV Standards preferred

  • Knowledge of current trends within the industry and developments in legislation or regulation preferred

  • Valid driver's license required

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
