Main responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of the Senior Associate Scientist, Virology will be to support covid vaccine projects by generating and characterizing SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirus materials and maintaining the production lab. Individual will support optimization of pseudovirus capabilities and assay development as needed for the project and departments. The successful candidate will be required to generate, analyse and document data and to communicate their results internally. The candidate will be required to liaise effectively with the team.

  • Scientific support licensed vaccines and novel vaccine portfolio progression (90%)

  • With manager oversight plan, design and execute experiments within the scope of the project, to meet the program objectives and demonstrate a willingness to implement new technologies and protocols, as needed.

  • Demonstrate technical proficiency with the ability to problem solve in a broad array of experimental protocols.

  • Contribute to concise scientific presentations in line with project objectives

  • Support the team with quality documentation, technical reports, and ensuring proper data collection and recording.

  • Evaluate relevant literature to support the team with new experimental ways to optimize assays or implement new techniques

  • Work in a team environment that utilizes agile working methods.

  • Communication (5%)

  • Ensures regular communication with the main clients: definition of the needs, harmonization of methods, efficient transfer of assets.

  • S/he/they communicate their own research data to the team lead to review and provide summaries in presentation form to present at internal review meetings.

  • Engages with the team to promote scientific visibility on technological aspects (publications, communications at international conferences).

  • Keeps up to date with scientific, development and business aspects related to the vaccine portfolio.

  • Ensures efficient reporting of his/her/their activities.

  • Is accountable to report any delays, technical issues in team/sub-team(s) and Operational Management and to work with management in proposing solution/scenario to mitigate project impacts.

  • HSE /Quality Responsibilities (5%)

  • Actively take part in trainings.

  • Comply with the company safety policies and HSE to minimize risk to self, others and the environment, consistent with HSE policies, community and industry standards.

  • Identify and help to improve best practices in HSE operations.

  • Document all work appropriately in appropriate electronic tools and perform laboratory support activities such as maintaining equipment and ordering lab supplies.

  • Responds promptly to all health and safety concerns or incidents and completes the appropriate documentation in a timely manner

  • Ensures that critical incidents and accidents are reported to the appropriate authorities & manager

About You

  • Experience : Previous experience working in the industry MSc: +1 yr; BSc: +1-3 yrs, preferably in vaccinology or equivalent discipline.

  • Skills :

  • Experience in Virological techniques: virus amplification, titration assay, virus like particle generation/characterization, pseudovirus generation/characterization, and neutralization assays

  • Molecular Biology applications: PCR, cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, RNA extraction, RT-PCR, Sequencing analysis

  • Cell culture aseptic techniques

  • Knowledge and experience with automated or semi-automatic platforms in assay use is a plus

  • Experience in working in regulated environment with quality systems and knowledge of ISO or GLP quality standards a plus.

  • Hands-on experience with scientific software for advanced data analytics and visualization is a plus: Geneious, snap gene, Prism, Tableau, or Sequencher

  • Experience working in an agile and fast-paced environment

  • Proficient interpersonal, communication, presentation, good record keeping and attention to detail

  • Education : MS; BSc in Virology/Biology or related field

  • Languages : English
