Actalent Sr. Scientist in WALTHAM, Massachusetts

Description:

Job Summary: Excellent opportunity for a highly talented biologist with a strong experience in cell / molecular biology.

This position will be an integral part of the in vitro pharmacology group and the ideal candidate will help drive discovery of novel therapeutics across disease areas with a primary focus in oncology. This is predominantly a laboratory/wet bench-based role and requires strong experimental technique, ability to deliver quality data in a timely manner and work effectively with team members, both internal and external (CRO) in support of drug discovery efforts. The scientist will support development of cell-based novel assays for providing in vitro ‘proof of concept’ for targets of interest, phenotypic and mechanistic assay development using cutting edge technologies to support screening cascades and/or prosecuting functional roles of targets in secondary assays of biological relevance e.g., human primary tumor tissues. Familiarity with disease mechanisms in Oncology and Immuno-Oncology is mandatory and some familiarity with neurobiology is desirable. Data analysis, interpretation, documentation and presentation skills is required

Key responsibilities of this role are included, but not limited to:

  • Design, execute and perform data analysis for cell-based experiments

  • Develop and execute plate-based cellular assays in medium – to high-throughput (96/384 well) assay formats. The assays include viability assays, proliferation assays (2D, chlorogenic), flow cytometric assays and assays that are currently in development on an as needed basis.

  • Perform molecular techniques including DNA/ RNA isolation, cloning, PCR, qRT-PCR, gene expression analysis. Generate and maintain stable cell lines.

  • Utilize chemical and genetic tools (siRNA/ shRNA/ CRISPR) to dissect target function in relevant cell models.

  • Independently perform functional assays as needed to assess biological activity of small molecules and/or large molecules such as antibodies.

  • Conduct secondary assays for prosecuting targets of interest in various biologically relevant (e.g., human tumor tissues) settings.

  • Perform rigorous testing of the developed methods and establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) to insure that quality of work is the highest caliber

Skills:

biology, assay development, target identification, rnai, crispr, pcr, elisa, pharmacology

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Will not look at Bachelors' degrees

  • PhD with 2-3 years or M.S. with 6+ years of experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical setting;

  • Candidates with a degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., molecular/cellular biology) and experience in Oncology disease drug discovery preferred.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Aseptic mammalian tissue culture, cell line growth and maintenance

Experience with both siRNA- and shRNA-mediated RNAi is essential (familiarity with CRISPR is desirable)

Experience in molecular biology (nucleic acid purification, DNA cloning, PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, and qPCR)

Cell based assay development and execution using a variety of techniques such as FRET, BRET, MSD, HTRF, ALPHALisa, Luminex, Flow cytometry-based readouts and high content imaging

PERSONAL SKILLS

Exceptional time management skills and ability to work well under pressure and drive projects under aggressive timelines

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail, outstanding organizational and documentation skills.

Strong interdisciplinary communication skills and continually pursue self-improvement
