Kimley-Horn Transportation Data Analyst in Waltham, Massachusetts
Our Kimley-Horn Boston office is seeking an ambitious data analyst and transportation enthusiast to support a variety of practice areas local to Boston and across the firm. These practice areas include Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Transportation Planning and Traffic Operations, and Big Data.

Our team is looking for an analyst to support data analysis and evaluation using a variety of data analysis platforms (e.g., advanced Microsoft Excel, VBA, Python, R, Power BI, and Tableau). The sources of data will vary from project to project, but will include vehicle detection data, probe vehicle data, connected vehicle data, weather data, work zone data, and data generated by in-house algorithms. You would be responsible for initial data cleaning, data processing and advanced computing techniques, and final presentation of data in easy-to-understand tables and graphics.
In this role, you will also have opportunities to engage with the Transportation Planning and Traffic Operations team by performing large traffic analyses using software programs such as PTV Vissim microsimulation software and Synchro signal timing software. In addition, this role will include opportunities to improve internal workflows to make traffic analyses more efficient.
As a member of the firmwide Big Data team, you will be asked to support a variety of clients considering investment in Big Data for the first time, evaluation of the validity of Big Data, and the application of Big Data in new ways in the transportation industry.
Interest in transportation, transportation technology, and the use of Big Data in the transportation industry
Bachelor’s Degreein a relevant program (e.g., engineering or computer science)and2+ yearsof relevant experienceormaster’s degreeand 1+ years of relevant experience
Intermediatedata analysis and visualization experienceusing most of the following applications:
Flexible coding language (e.g., Python or R)
Advanced applications of Microsoft Excel, including exposure to VBA coding
Data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI or Tableau)
Excellent verbal and written communication skillsexhibited by experience writing reports and giving presentations to technical and non-technical audiences
Passion and demonstrated drive to achieve goals
Use of creativity torecommend solutions tochallenging problems
Attention to details and ability to contribute to a positive work environment
Clear sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines
Advancedunderstanding of Python coding and experience with common data analysis packages,python dashboards, and object-oriented programming
Experience working in SQL
Transportation-related industry experience (e.g., university coursework,internships, full-timepositions)
Exposure to transportation planning and operations analysesand software (e.g., PTV Vissim and Synchro)
Experienceworking with Big Data, such as probe vehicle data
