YMCA Cape Cod Aquatics Director in West Barnstable, Massachusetts

Assists with delivery of Aquatics programs, ensures safety, and maintains effective quality programs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists with planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs. Leads activities for assigned group of participants. Assists with recruiting, hiring, training, developing, scheduling, and supervising staff and volunteers. Assists with reviewing and evaluating performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Supervises aquatics and waterfront programs in accordance with YMCA and applicable Massachusetts regulations and operating standards, ensuring the safety of the participants while maintaining a clean and safe environment. Maintains a clean and safe environment, ensuring area is free of clutter, debris and hazardous conditions. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes reports as necessary. Interacts and maintains effective, positive relationships with members, participants, parents and staff; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Models positive relationship-building skills in all interactions. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Monitors performance of chemical testing, as required, and takes appropriate action. Ensures that accurate attendance records are maintained if necessary. Assists with promotion and marketing of program(s). Maintains required certifications. Attends staff meetings and trainings. Other duties as assigned. Holds staff accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum age of 21. High School/GED required with some college preferred. Certifications: YMCA Waterfront Lifeguarding or Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding and WSI, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Basic First Aid. Oxygen Administration required within 30 days of hire. YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent within 120 days of hire. One year previous work experience in a similar program. Previous supervisory experience, including staff scheduling and training preferred. Ability to maintain physical and mental readiness at certification level. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills and swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position. Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques. Ability to pass lifeguard water test. Must be able to remain alert. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods. Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals. Ability to continuously scan all areas of the waterfront with clear vision.
