Advocates Assistant Program Director of Forensic Mental Health in West Boylston, Massachusetts

Salary $85,000 - $92,000

The Assistant Program Director of Forensic Mental Health Services at the Worcester Jail and House of Correction (WHOC) is responsible for assisting the Program Director in the delivery of quality mental health care for individuals who are justice involved at the jail and prison. Located in West Boylston, MA WHOC houses up to 1200 men who are currently involved with the legal system. The mental health team at WHOC is contracted to provide quality care to individuals who might not otherwise receive treatment or are not able to easily access treatment in the community through clinical services ranging from screening, evaluation, crisis interventions services, individual and group therapy and risk assessment and management and discharge planning. The work is dynamic both in responsibilities and due to the wide variation of clinical presentations and issues ranging from adjustment issues, anxiety and depression, serious and persistent mental illness, dual diagnosis and severe personality disorder. The Assistant Program Director would help provide some direct clinical care and administrative support to the mental health team to promote this work continuing as well as making a meaningful difference in improving the understanding of mental illness within the justice system and helping to shape the culture at this facility.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision and management in conjunction with the Program Director of a team of 6 master’s level clinicians, nurse practitioners, psychiatrist, nurse and administrative assistant.

  • Maintain a small caseload and participate in shared clinical responsibilities.

  • Provides on-call coverage as needed and agreed upon with the Program Director.

  • Assist in CQI, meeting documentation standards and compliance with regulation agencies.

  • Attend and actively participate in supervision.

  • Ensure that all inmates are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with policies & procedures.

  • Perform all duties in accordance with the agency and WCJHOC policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling Psychology, or related counseling field.

  • Prior management or supervision experience.

  • Current independent license with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling.

  • Must have working knowledge of current version of the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Basic computer knowledge.

  • Strongly prefer a candidate that will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
