Position Information GIS Application Assistant (EDP Systems Analyst I) Dates: 4-6-25 to 10-18-25 Please note, if you are selected for this position and will be working less than 90 days, the position will automatically revert to a short-term position. Our short-term positions are not part of the salary scale that is advertised within this job posting. Should this position revert to a short-term seasonal position (less than 90 days), your salary rate will be discussed with you during the interview phase of the process. About the Department of Conservation and Recreation: The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, golf courses, skating rinks, trails, and parkways. The Department of Conservation and Recreation, Division of Water Supply Protection seeks qualified applicants for the position of Seasonal EDP Systems Analyst I – GIS Applications Assistant. The Division of Water Supply Protection has migrated many geospatial workflows to the cloud using ArcGIS Online. We manage a diverse suite of solutions for data management, field data collection, reporting, and coordination. The GIS Applications Assistant will be responsible for reviewing and updating existing ArcGIS Online web maps to comply with secretariat accessibility best practices and assist the Division in meeting accessibility requirements (under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title II). In addition, the GIS Applications Assistant will also provide support and technical guidance to Division Creators in making appropriate accessibility changes to their own web maps. Finally, the GIS Applications Assistant will be responsible for the creation of new workflow solutions as the need arises; each new solution will be fully documented, and training will be provided to staff on an as-needed basis. The successful candidate will also be responsible for completing special GIS projects, such as proof of concept work and the creation of content, both within ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro. Specific duties include: · Review and update existing ArcGIS Online web maps to comply with accessibility best practices. · Provide support and technical expertise to Division Creators to update web maps to comply with accessibility best practices. · Audit existing ArcGIS Online workflows to determine potential upgrades available with newest technology releases, as time allows. Implement upgrades as needed. · Build new ArcGIS Online workflow solutions for staff, as needed. o Develop detailed documentation for new workflows and methodologies. · Create and update training materials for DCR staff, as needed. · Other related duties as required. * Preferred Qualifications:* · Understanding and knowledge of spatial data design, data collection, cartography and data analysis. · Proficiency in Esri building products – specifically in ArcGIS Online (Map Viewer), Esri mobile app solutions (Survey123, Field Maps), and ArcGIS Pro. · Some knowledge of scripting: Arcade, HTML, Python. · Some familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act Title II. · Ability to learn new technologies and concepts. · Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally. · Ability to work well independently and with others. · Ability to research to resolve problems. · A self-starter, motivated to take initiative and bring value to the team. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in electronic data processing work the major duties of which included computer programming and/or computer systems analysis, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. SUBSTITUTIONS: I. An Associate's degree with a major in the field of data processing or computer programming may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.* II. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in the field of data processing or computer and/or information science may be substituted for the required experience.* III. A diploma for completion of a two year full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized non-degree granting business or vocational/technical school above the high school level with a major in the field of computer programming may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.* IV. An official transcript from a recognized business or vocational/ technical school as evidence of completion of a program consisting of at least 650 hours of instruction in the field of computer programming may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience. V. Graduation from the data processing course of a recognized vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience. Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
