SHERIFF’S OFFICE OF WORCESTER COUNTY POSITION DESCRIPTION[1] _ _ POSITION: TEACHER I (M/F) BARGAINING UNIT: Professional Employees Fitchburg Community Justice Support Center _ _ I. _GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES_: To instruct inmates/probationers/parolees/students in basic educational skills including, but not limited to, reading, arithmetic and writing. This to be done either on an individual basis or in a group setting, or both. II. _ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS_:[2] * Responsible for program data and maintenance of student management databases * To instruct inmates/probationers/parolees/students, using various teaching methods, such as lecture and demonstration * To administer in-house tests (TABE, etc.) to determine appropriate grade level, and shall continue to monitor student progress * To maintain individual inmate student records and keep supervisor apprised of inmate student needs and progress * To be responsible for daily classroom activity * To report any potentially dangerous situation in the school area to the School Security Officer * To inventory classroom materials needed and submit a report to the supervisor * To develop and administer tests * Prepare course outlines and objectives according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements * To use audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations * To evaluate, record and report inmate student progress * To grade and mark tests and examinations * To confer with inmates/probationers/parolees/students and counselors to resolve behavioral and academic problems * To maintain discipline in the classroom * To participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops * Select, store, order, issue and inventory classroom equipment, materials and supplies * To perform any other educational duties assigned * To report for work on time and appropriately attired * To maintain regular attendance ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [1]This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and employee and is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change. III. _MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS_: / A. _Education and Experience_:/ Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college, no experience necessary B. /_Special Requirements_/: Must be available to work for night programming C. /_Knowledge, Ability and Skill_/: * Collaborates as a team member with all staff to foster an environment for improved academic and personal outcomes for every student * Attain certification to administer required assessments * Must communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing * The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing * The ability to listen and to understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences * The ability to speak clearly so that it is understandable to a listener * The ability to instruct others how to do something * The ability to talk to others to effectively convey information * Able to use multiple approaches when learning or teaching new things * General knowledge of teaching methods * General knowledge of subject area D. /_Physical Qualification_s/: * Minimal physical effort demanded when performing functions under typical classroom conditions. * Frequently required to sit, talk, and hear. * Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
