Town of West Springfield Park Ranger in West Springfield, Massachusetts

Park Ranger Description The Park Ranger works under the supervision of the Director of Park & Recreation to enforce the Town of West Springfield Park and Playground rules and regulations. The primary purpose of the Park Ranger position is to work as an ambassador for the Park & Recreation Department to educate, instruct and assist park users. Park Rangers also serve as \"eyes and ears\" for the police department in an effort to prevent crime and vandalism. Examples of Duties -Patrol recreation areas on foot and/or by vehicle to monitor users\' activities, and maintain a safe and secure environment, preventing vandalism. May issue (Notice of Violation) of Town By laws, rules or regulations. -Develop and maintain good public relations with the general public and law enforcement. -Provide information to the public regarding the recreational area and specific points of interest. -Respond to public inquiries and resolve compliance issues regarding permits at picnic areas, parks, and athletic facilities. -Check for valid permits for all field users and large picnic groups. Checks on all permits for each shift. -Maintain logs of patrol activities and prepare written reports of incidents, accidents or other occurrences. -Report criminal activity and/or vandalism to the West Springfield Police Department and the Director of Park & Recreation. -Clear park facilities at closing times and lock up Park gates at posted times. -Environmental Stewardship / Promotes a clean Park! Shift: 10:00am-3:30pm or 3:30pm-9:00pm or as assigned by the Park & Recreation Director. This is a seasonal position (April-November). Salary: The salary for this position is \$16.00-\$18.00 per hour. Qualifications Must have a Bachelor\'s degree, or a high school diploma and a minimum of three years? experience in public service or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Strong communication and leadership skills Must have a valid Massachusetts driver\'s license Must have a valid First Aid/CPR Certification or the ability to obtain these certifications within one month of employment. Preferences will be given to applicants with law enforcement training Minimum Age Requirements: 20 years of age by April 1, 2024.
