Amazon Robotics seeks an enthusiastic, customer obsessed and innovative Principal Product Manager - Technical to help shape and develop of our next generation of highly automated fulfillment solutions enabling ultra-fast delivery from urban fulfillment centers. This role requires you to innovate concepts, define a product vision, and design highly automated operations and supply chain workflows that scale down to small footprints so that customers can be served at the point of need. You will work collaboratively across software, hardware, systems, solutions, manufacturing teams and more to deliver world class fulfillment capabilities. You must have strong fundamentals in: product management, systems thinking, lean systems, retail operations, problem solving, financial acuity, and the ability to effectively communicate with and influence decision makers at all levels. You have an intrinsic motivation, innate ability to simplify complex problems, and deliver results in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment.

Key job responsibilities

The Principal PM-T is responsible for defining a system of interrelated products and supporting the team through the full product lifecycle. This position will be responsible for strategic planning, financial analysis, feature definition and specification, and resource scoping and commitments for multiple programs. This role is also a customer facing position and will require the ability to build relationships with Amazon teams and to develop and assess new business opportunities. The position will report within the Local Vending Machine (LVM) team leader within AR’s Product Management Excellence (PME) Organization.

  • Serve as the Voice of the Customer for the product line throughout its life cycle from initial concept creation to launch, and subsequent support of the product.

  • Identify new product opportunities by evaluating the business and competitive landscape, understanding customer needs and value drivers

  • Write business and product requirements documents and ensure clear communication and coordination of requirements to the business, design and development teams.

  • Participate as a member of the core team during development, including research, requirements definition, metrics analysis, implementation, testing, and launch efforts.

  • Work cross-functionally to manage bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make trade-offs, balance the business needs versus technical constraints, and maximize business benefit while building great customer experiences.

  • Measure and analyze existing products for opportunities to innovate and improve, providing additional benefits to customers

  • Present confidently to Amazon senior management as well as other large audiences.

A day in the life

In this role, you will be responsible for all parts of a fulfillment solution. Based on your research, you will build a compelling vision and roadmap through prioritization decisions that are well-reasoned and customer-oriented. You will collaborate tightly and artfully negotiate tradeoffs with business partners and technical program teams, while communicating efficiently and effectively through superb verbal/written skills.

You will promote a cutting-edge product process by designing scalable technical solutions to solve pain points for a rapidly growing solution. Critical to your success will be collaborating with technical teams by bringing crisp, clear requirements to engineers and fully engaging in technical discussions to drive decision making and progress product development. Along the way, you will anticipate and solve problems typical of a fast-paced environment, maintain stakeholder alignment, pay attention to details, and demonstrate end-to-end ownership.

As a seasoned product manager, you will add structure to ambiguity by driving clarity while exercising good judgement. There will be times that you need to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces to deliver them in a successful and timely manner. Last, but not least, in this role you will lead by example to shape the culture and morale of a diverse and growing team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition

  • Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product

  • Experience technical product management

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or Master’s degree

  • Product management experience in leading cross-functional teams in how to continuously improve the business and define what is next

  • Experience in managing tradeoff decisions between customer needs and technology complexity, and leading discussions with senior leadership

  • Proven ability to think strategically and execute methodically

  • Experience with lean manufacturing techniques and processes

  • Experience in operations management or retail business management.
