Amazon Robotics (AR) is located in the greater Boston area, the epicenter of robotics innovation. The AR Operations organization manufactures high-quality robotics and gets the right materials to the right place at the right time to enable our automated solutions. It’s an operation that works cross-functionally with teams across Amazon globally, using data and performance indicators.

The Process Engineer will be responsible for development, installation, validation, and optimization of complex manufacturing processes and systems to manufacture Robotic Systems. The role will collaborate cross-functionally within Operations and cross-geographically to define process requirements, procure and validate equipment, and manage optimization and cost-reduction initiatives. The role will be expected to clearly communicate with senior management on project status, risks and change control.

Key job responsibilities

  • Foster a culture of inclusion.

  • Development and Validation of processes specific to NPI programs.

  • Own Process optimization and cost reduction initiatives for sustaining processes

  • Discuss the need for smart factory (SCADA) applications and reports with different stakeholders (e.g. Operations).

  • Identify and evaluate automation opportunities in the manufacturing facility to scope and design automation projects, added value, system integration, and achieving KPIs.

  • Design feasible and scalable automation solutions to promote manufacturing production and efficiency.

  • Coordinate with stakeholders to define automation requirements and translate this to simulations and functional specifications.

  • Collaborate with 3rd party vendors and system integrators for automation solutions to enhance manufacturing processes.

  • Enhance Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), upgrade Oracle ERP system, and utilize Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) for automated workflows and traceability.

  • Write business and operational planning documents for capital equipment and plant infrastructure.

  • Implement technology and tool improvements to impact Safety, Quality, and Cost targets.

  • Perform critical process reviews including Risk and Hazard assessments.

  • Ability to travel (25%) to work on projects.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience

  • Experience with prototyping and implementation

  • 3+ years of experience in factory automation projects and control systems – Manufacturing, automotive, food

  • & beverage, biopharmaceuticals.

  • Experience developing work flows and working within SAP S/4HANA Manufacturing solutions, Siemens Opscenter, 42Q or similar enterprise manufacturing execution system business applications.

  • Understanding of control systems integration and proven experience with PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, MES, IIOT, and key Industry 4.0 objectives.

  • Strong Understanding of AI/robotics for industrial applications including AGVs, warehouse automaton, and manufacturing process automation.

  • Ability to visualize insights using data visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI).

  • Experience reviewing and generating product/fixture designs in Solidworks.

  • Experience reviewing and generating plant layouts in AutoCAD.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools

  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume

  • Demonstrated experience in Electrical, Mechanical, and Pneumatic diagnosis and troubleshooting of robotic and other machines and equipment

  • Robotic programming experience (Fanuc, ABB, Kuka, etc.)
