Amazon Software Dev Manager III, Amazon Robotics (AR) in Westborough, Massachusetts

Description

Amazon Robotics is building robots and systems which will form the foundation for the next generation of automation and transform warehouse operations. The team is seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Software Development to create control systems for advanced robots and automation equipment. This role will lead multiple teams spanning industrial controls and embedded systems. They will collaborate with internal and external partners in creating solutions deployable at Amazon scale.

Key job responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with customers, stakeholders and partner teams to align on goals and execute effectively.

  • Manage and support multiple system development teams

  • Foster and nurture the career development of the team. Leading, coaching, motivating and rewarding the engineers is a critical part of this role.

  • Be deeply involved in architecture and design - lead the team in making high-ambiguity technical decisions and tradeoffs

  • Proactively manage and mitigate technical risks, particularly integration risks.

  • Design and implement the right development processes which create predictable results and meet the needs of the team and stakeholders

  • Design, build, optimize and operate systems for very large scale

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
