The Amazon Robotics Simulation team is a core group of software developers and data scientists dedicated to simulating the next generation of robotic solutions. We accelerate Amazon's growth by evaluating and optimizing new designs and technologies before construction even starts. By building the core technology needed to quickly evaluate concepts and experimenting with new designs, we help guide the use of robotics in future applications.

This is a hands-on position where you will be involved in everything from requirements gathering to design and delivery of new software. As a software development engineer, you will be responsible for driving the technical direction of a complex software system. At the same time, you will work closely with data scientists to investigate and optimize the performance of new designs. You will be working with a cross-functional team to prototype, design, and develop software solutions that span local, service oriented and cloud-based systems.

A commitment to teamwork and strong communication skills (with both business and technical partners) are absolute requirements. Creating reliable, scalable, and high-performance software products requires technical expertise, a sound understanding of the fundamentals of computer science and software engineering, and practical experience building large-scale distributed systems. This person has delivered high-quality technology products/services in a high-growth environment.

Key job responsibilities

  • Engage with customers to understand their research and solution design initiatives to anticipate their needs

  • Collect customer feedback on current and future product features

  • Drive consensus on technical decisions and ensure the appropriate resources are employed to deliver high quality results

  • Identify, assess, track and mitigate issues and risks at the project level

  • Create, maintain, and disseminate our product roadmap to stakeholders

  • Drive and support multiple programs and manage competing priorities

  • Triage and prioritize bugs and new feature requests

  • Coordinate our customer training program and facilitate development and organization of training materials

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
