Old Dominion Freight Line Database Adminstrator lll (DB2 for i) in Westfield, Massachusetts

Provide strategic and tactical direction for database team and manage the databases to ensure availability and performance standards are met.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with IT resources to ensure appropriate solutions/offerings are being utilized and supported across the organization

  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to junior level DBAs to support new directions or solutions selected for the enterprise

  • Responsible for forecasting database utilization and growth patterns and recommend modifications or upgrades for process improvement

  • Implement tools and processes to monitor databases to proactively ensure high availability

  • Maintain policies and procedures designed to ensure the integrity of the enterprise database environments

  • Lead the assessment and evaluation of tools supporting the databases

  • Recommend changes and enhancements to improve the environment and provide excellent customer service

  • Help transform business requirements into environment specific database solutions

  • Participate in the development of implementation plans and post implementation reviews

  • Assist developers with tuning database access or SQL code to ensure successful implementations

  • Establish procedures and database administration, security standards and implement database best practices

  • Research and perform database upgrades and patching

  • Responsible for implementing and supporting backup and recovery solutions and Disaster Recovery processes

  • Responsible for implementing high-availability and be proficient in replication technologies

  • Participate in on-call rotation

  • Document processes and procedures as assigned by management

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and/or equivalent experience

Pay Range

  • $99,647 - $124,558

    Compensation Range:

    The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in database administration, design, architecture, and development

  • 5+ years of experience with tuning, performance, and scalability projects

  • Experience in implementing a structure and repeatable set of proactive database management policies

  • Expertise in strategies and approaches for performance optimization

  • Excellent problem solving skills

  • Excellent time and project management skills

  • Ability to self-pace workload

  • Ability to collaborate with team members to successfully complete projects on time

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-motivated, results driven with a sense of urgency to resolve production issues
