State of Massachusetts Physical Therapist Assistant in Westfield, Massachusetts

Western Massachusetts Hospital, part of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a dynamicPhysical Therapist Assistantto play an essential role in enhancing the quality of life for patients aged 15 and older. In this dynamic position, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing personalized treatment plans, working closely with a team of healthcare professionals. Your expertise will guide patients through their rehabilitation journey, teaching them essential skills such as ambulation, wheelchair mobility, and exercise, while ensuring compliance with established care standards and state regulations. Your contribution will extend beyond direct patient care as you train new employees, monitor the performance of non-licensed staff and students, and ensure the safety and efficacy of our physical therapy programs. Through continuous consultation with physicians and other staff, you will help tailor treatment plans to meet the unique needs of each patient, addressing challenges like orthopedic issues, pain management, and loss of functional skills. Schedule:Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm /_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_/ · Teach patients ambulation, wheelchair mobility, position changes, transfers, and exercises to enhance their rehabilitation process. · Monitor non-licensed staff and students, ensuring patient care standards and state regulations are met. · Consult with physicians and professional staff to follow and adjust patient treatment plans developed by Physical Therapists. · Prepare requisition forms for patient supplies and equipment, and attend meetings and seminars. · Train new employees and volunteers on body mechanics, transfers, exercises, mobility, equipment use, and facility regulations. · Develop methods to address issues such as skin tissue breakdown, orthopedic problems, pain, and loss of functional skills in patients. · Inspect patient areas for safety, perform adjustments on wheelchairs, report equipment problems, and ensure a safe environment for patients. · Observe and document patients' responses to therapy, chart exercise data, and provide information to modify treatment plans. · Apply orthotics, elastic stockings, splints, and other modalities within state licensure guidelines. · Coordinate physical therapy activities with other disciplines, maintain records, order supplies, and provide technical advice and training. /_Required Qualifications:_/ · Knowledge of training methods and techniques related to exercise, physical therapy, or athletic science. · Understanding of the principles of human anatomy, physiology, growth and development as applied to physical therapy. · Knowledge of the principles and practices of exercise and physical therapy. · Knowledge of treatment techniques and procedures used in exercise and physical therapy. · Understanding of the types and uses of equipment aid materials used in providing exercise programs and physical therapy. · Knowledge of the types and uses of orthopedic appliances, and methods and techniques of fitting and adjusting such appliances. · Ability to maintain accurate records. · Capacity to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress. · Ability to lift or move heavy objects and/or persons. · Understanding of the factors, trends, and problems in providing physical therapy. /_DPH Mission Statement:_/ The mission of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is to prevent illness, injury, and premature death, to assure access to high-quality public health and health care services, and to promote wellness and health equity for all people in the Commonwealth.
