Red Hat Software Quality Engineer in Westford, Massachusetts

Responsible for maintaining and updating the automated testing pipeline for Red Hat Kernel testing, debugging any new or existing issue to optimize testing performance.

*Telecommuting permitted: work may be performed within normal commuting distance from the Red Hat, Inc. office in Westford, MA.

What You Will Do:

  • Conduct test planning for Red Hat Kernel products to satisfy security, user and capacity requirements.

  • Hold meetings with different stakeholders for Red Hat Kernel, including developers, project owners, project managers, documentation team and customer experience team, to discuss and plan resources, requirements and future road map.

  • Run long term testing to analyze system stability and capacity when loaded with Red Hat Kernel products.

  • Configure and manage testing systems and individual testing machines, using various testing techniques to obtain and analyze results.

  • Conduct regular tier testing for all Red Hat kernel supporting streams and Red Hat Kernel bugs, and report and debug any issues that occurred during testing.

  • Design specific testing plans for different Red Hat Kernel projects on different systems and determine test passing criteria.

  • Monitor testing infrastructure, report and debug any issues to ensure testing specifications are met for Red Hat Kernel on the testing infrastructure level.

  • Work together with the Customer Experience and Engagement team to discuss customer requirements for quality testing on Red Hat Kernel products.

  • Own Red Hat Kernel product bugs and determine testing requirements for system layouts and configurations.

  • Communicate with developers and other stakeholder to determine product supporting matrix and request and configure additional systems/computer hardware if needed.

  • Mentor new hires to use internal systems and tools as well as maintain and update new hire documentations.

  • Communicate with managers to determine purchases of any new equipment to expand the Red Hat Kernel project supporting matrix and maintain proper testing environment for hardware.

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science or related field and one (1) year of experience in the job offered or related role.

  • Must have one (1) year of experience with Linux operating system or kernel to develop tests and identify problems;

  • Must have one (1) year of experience with writing test code in Linux bash, Python or C;

  • Must have one (1) year of experience with computer architectures in a practical environment to diagnose problems and develop proper tests;

  • Must have experience with communicating technical details to other stakeholders as well as management and co-workers;

  • Must have experience with understanding business needs and how they relate to enterprise software development;

  • Must have experience with working in a collaborative open source environment.

The salary range for this position is $92,860.00 - $148,550.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay Transparency

Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
