Position SummaryRegis, a leading Catholic university, is seeking a collaborative and outward facing Vice President of Public Relations and Strategic Partnerships to manage and lead a comprehensive, integrated strategic partnership and strategic outreach effort. The individual will have an opportunity to define, assess, and implement a university-wide strategic vision that unifies messaging for Regis, and meaningfully engages all internal and external constituencies.
Reporting to the President, this position will serve as an integral member of the President’s cabinet and the Administrative Council. The VP of PR and Strategic Partnerships will be responsible for the development, integration, and implementation of a broad range of public relations activities relative to the strategic direction and positioning of the university and its leadership. This individual will be an ambassador for the organization and will need to build and enhance relationships with the media and with major corporate and non-profit organizations in New England. The goal is to advance Regis’ position with relevant constituents, as well as to drive broader awareness of the university.
This individual will spearhead the development and implementation of an annual outreach plan that includes public relations, and strategic partnerships. The VP will work collaboratively with the AVP of Marketing and Communications on initiatives including internal and external communications and aligning these programs with the university’s strategic priorities; support a service-oriented culture, and work with Regis’ President to ensure the institution’s vision is communicated to all stakeholders.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Presidential Communications Advisor: Serve as the President’s lead public relations advisor responsible for working with her to develop and implement a thought leadership platform, drafting speeches, op-eds and other forms of significant communication.
Strategic Partnerships Lead: Act as outward face of Regis in the New England community to build impactful partnerships with employers, other higher education institutions, local school districts and the non-profit community.
Serve as the point person for business partnerships, as well as a liaison who can take on primary responsibility for developing productive relationships between the college and local employers, specifically helping the college identify and even anticipate the labor needs of local industries and current partners.
Work with the President’s Cabinet members, including enrollment and advancement VPs, to develop annual partnership goals and strategies. Initiate relationships and follow through on implementing MOUs and other structures to ensure that partnerships yield the desired outcomes. Act as Regis’ representative to major business and community groups.
Support external partner relationships including Regis’s board of directors, our advisory boards, and key members of university alumni network. Be a key partner and leader for conversations on Regis corporate brand and broader partner strategies.
Leadership: Requires demonstrated organizational, management and leadership skills.
Strategic Planning & Oversight: Must have the ability to think strategically, to understand the “bigger picture” of how, public relations, and strategic partnerships fit into overall strategic objectives. Works collaboratively with the AVP of Communications and Marketing to develop and execute a strategic communications plan.
Media and Public Relations: Serve as the university’s primary spokesperson and hands on final press release deliverer, pitching Regis stories and news. Strategic planning and implementation oversight of all public relations initiatives, including strategy for increasing the university’s digital footprint with media outreach to enhance traditional communications channels.
Crisis Management: Oversee management of internal and external crises that may arise to ensure minimal impact to the organization. This includes developing a crisis communications plan, planning for potential developments/situations, assembling and leading the university’s risk management and crisis communications teams, organizing university response, and working with vendors as appropriate.
Fiscal Responsibility: Develop budgets for public relations and strategic partnerships; identify areas of need and make the case for additional resources when necessary, and identify opportunities for efficiencies across the university.
Master’s degree required in communications, marketing or related field.
Seven or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education communications or a related field, including strategic communications, public relations, internal and external communications, and crisis management with related supervisory/management experience.
Experience initiating and building strategic partnerships and indication of community involvement on behalf of an employer.
Ability to uphold the university’s commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.
Advanced skills with Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and active knowledge of existing and emerging digital and social media resources.
Leadership: Demonstrate leadership skills and possess the ability to foster collaboration among cross-functional teams.
Strategic Business Acumen: Must be able to think strategically and demonstrate evidence of linking communications strategies to business strategies and goals.
Crisis Management & Responsiveness: Ability to successfully oversee the management of crises as well as to work effectively under intense deadline pressure.
Decision Making: Ability to make decisions with significant, broad implications. Ability to facilitate and guide decision making on strategy and direction of the department.
Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are broad, complex and abstract and requiring significant creativity, resourcefulness, staff engagement, negotiation and diplomacy.
Collaboration: Ability to lead and direct multiple teams and foster collaboration within the department and across system functions as well as to directly respond to and execute the required action. Excellent interpersonal skills.
Customer Service: Commitment to a customer-service oriented culture. Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner.
Written Communications: Ability to communicate complex information effectively in writing to all internal and external constituencies. Must possess excellent writing and editing skills.
Oral Communications: Ability to orally communicate complex concepts and address sensitive situations, to resolve conflicts, as well as negotiate, motivate and persuade others.
Knowledge: Demonstrate broad and comprehensive knowledge of communications platforms, as well as theories, concepts, practices and policies with the ability to execute them in complex and/or unprecedented situations across multiple functional areas.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Will require occasional evening and weekend availability.
Normal office environment, not subject to extremes in temperature, noise, odors, etc.
May spend extended periods at terminal, on telephone, or operating other office machines, requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
