Eversource Energy Senior Engineer, AMI Meter (Hybrid) in Westwood, Massachusetts

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) Test Lab Senior Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and executing test plans to validate the functionality, performance, and interoperability of AMI systems and components.

This is a hybrid role. The first three months are fulltime in the office.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop comprehensive test plans and test cases based on project requirements and specifications.
  • Set up and configure test environments, including hardware, software, and network components, to simulate real-world AMI deployments.
  • Conduct functional, performance, and interoperability testing of AMI systems, meters, communication modules, and related devices.
  • Identify and document defects, inconsistencies, and performance bottlenecks, and work closely with development teams to resolve issues.
  • Perform regression testing to ensure the stability and reliability of software releases and firmware updates.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, and quality assurance, to prioritize and address testing needs.
  • Stay updated on industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies related to AMI and smart grid systems.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to internal teams and external partners during system integration, troubleshooting, and deployment phases.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes, methodologies, and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Document test results, methodologies, and procedures to facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Establish governance and safety procedures to safeguard employees, test equipment, and software systems.
  • Acts as the site Environmental Coordinator for the AMI Test Lab.
  • Will have storm restoration and emergency assignments.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or other engineering field; or Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience
  • Advanced degree in electrical engineering, or other engineering field

Experience:

  • Eight (8) plus years of experience with AMI architectures, protocols, and technologies; such as cellular, RF-mesh, WiFi, and IoT.
  • Complete understanding of metering architecture, voltage/current measuring, and electric distribution systems
  • Experience with test automation frameworks, tools, and scripting languages (e.g., Python) for efficient test execution and reporting.
  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting network infrastructure components, such as routers, switches, and gateways.
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment, including meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and communication testers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug complex systems and identify root causes of issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira) is a plus.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Certifications such as Certified Test Engineer (CSTE) or Certified Software Quality Engineer (CSQE) are advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $112,000 - $125,000 plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.
