Telecom Cable Technician Job Description

Location: Wilmington, MA

About the Role:

We are looking for experienced Telecom Cable Technicians to join our team in Wilmington, MA. In this role, you will take on mid-level responsibilities in the installation, termination, and maintenance of low-voltage cabling systems, supporting commercial and construction projects. You’ll have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, lead tasks independently, and mentor junior technicians while ensuring high-quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Pull, terminate, and punch down CAT5 and CAT6 cables with precision.

• Perform basic fiber optic cable installations and understand fiber handling protocols.

• Conduct cable testing and troubleshooting to ensure optimal system performance.

• Complete closet preparation, including rack installation, cable management, and labeling.

• Collaborate with other trades, including electricians and HVAC technicians, to meet project deadlines.

• Maintain compliance with OSHA standards and project-specific safety requirements.

Qualifications:

• 1+ years of experience in low-voltage cabling or telecommunications.

• Strong knowledge of commercial cabling standards, including BICSI practices.

• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and lead small teams when required.

• Experience working in construction and renovation environments.

• Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and the ability to travel to job sites.

• Basic hand and power tools required (e.g., drills, punch-down tools, tone generators).

• OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification.

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with fiber optic termination and splicing.

• Experience in IP-based systems, such as VoIP or network solutions.

• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve cabling issues efficiently.
